New Year's Eve Eve--Get Thee Behind Me 2020!

Post by Jersey Girl »

Hello MDB Hot Shots!

Just wondering what your thoughts and approaches might be to the upcoming turning of the page this New Year? Would you like to share any reflections or decisions you've made? Are you experiencing a pull in a different direction? Has your position hardened or softened in any regard towards other folks and does that matter? Any intentions you are setting for the near or far future? Would you like to tell me off? ;-)

I think my only intentions are to:

1. Stay alive is possible.
2. Continue to cut out toxic people from my headspace.
3. Take pleasure in simple things.
4. Look for ways to help.
5. Reintroduce some structure into my days.

No doubt we are not done with this journey towards health and still have a long way to go. I do wish the best for everyone here going forward. And again, thank you for teaching me about politics. I haven't enjoyed the lessons or the topic. But I know I have benefited from an increase in understanding of what on earth is going on in this country as well as clinging to the life raft with you guys when none of us really knows what the heck is going on or where it will end! And thank you for putting up with my crazy posts as the locked in, locked down, boxed in, introvert turned total recluse I have become this year. Please lord, open the gate so I don't get hurt trying to jump the fence and make a run for it!

I saw this posted on Facebook. Thought I would share it since maybe we could use a bit of levity. Pretty darn good advice if you ask me!

2020 took one last swipe: I rolled an ankle while exercising.

My goals are pretty modest:

1. No Covid
2. Keep my job
3. Get vaccinated
4. Keep closer in touch with extended family.
5. Reach out to friends for more online board gaming.

Oh, yeah, and stay up until midnight to make sure 2020 doesn’t shiv 2021 and stick around for another year.

Oh RI, I forgot all about getting vaccinated! Sorry about your ankle! Sounds like you need to give 2020 the boot!

This right here:

Omg, that is so funny!

I spent most of the day organizing my little studio area because I fully intend to tune out the rest of the world tomorrow and go into creative mode. It's been coming on for a couple of weeks now and I. just. gotta. do. it.

I'm usually up at midnight anyway. I don't care if I am awake. I don't care if the ball drops. I just want to wake up tomorrow and know we're on the other side of the mountain. Still have a ways to go, but yes, we'll be on the other side and I'm going to drink in every second of feeling that tomorrow.

Turn the page!!!

Has there ever been a year that people were happier to put it the rearview mirror?

For 2021?
  • Ride my bicycle. A lot. (I bought it October 10th and I've already put 1250 miles on it.) Bicycling is my zen.
  • Hang on until they start vaccinated old guys.
  • Hopefully go back to work. I'm a tour guide, so hopefully by June/July/August.
  • Watch our country be run by a man who loves the United States more than he loves himself.
My sister predicts a bacchanalian fall, with all of the pent-up social energy exploding. I can't imagine being 20 years old and not going to parties for a year.

2021 doesn't look like a cake walk, especially the first few months. But we have hope.

To everyone on the board, Happy New Year. Let's make it a better one.

Ha! that's something that might make our 2021 list. SO and I share what we affectionately call our ‘Frankenbike’, a reasonably functional thing cobbled together from neighborhood cast-offs - one weird off-road Huffy tank, some other bike that was once on fire, and a third cycle that (according to the interwebs) was offered as a freebie by an east coast audiophile dealer in the 1990’s if you bought a stereo from them.

We’ve vowed to make 2021 the year that we get at least one more bike that was made in this century.

But we also both took up walking more, once the whole lockdown thing started to kick in. Get in a few miles a day, and it adds up pretty quickly. According to my handy phone step app (cleverly called, ‘Stepz’), I walked 1625 miles in 2020. That’ll be the mark for me to beat in 2021.

This could be my list as well, although I totally slept through New Year's Eve again last night. I wasn't even trying to stay up. To be honest, I can't remember that last year I paid attention to the countdown.

The only thing I'd add to the list is that I hope my wife and I get to finally settle down in a permanent residence. We've been in limbo for what feels like exactly 4 years.

At the stroke of 12 midnight, a group of hikers lit up a fourteener and I landed in the next chapter! I know it's a continuation of all that came before this year, but it sure feels good to mark the turning of the page and to have a feeling of forward movement!

The new photos haven't come up on line yet, but this is one from last year. Just to give an idea of what it looks like. We don't have a ball to drop. We've got a massive pile of rocks and basically set it on fire. :-D

New year; tried something new. Snowboarding!

It was like:

::plop:: lololol! ::plop:: lololol! ::plop:: lololol! ::plop::

Maybe I need to add ‘learn to stand up on a snowboard for more than 20 feet’ to my 2021 list.

By the way, Jersey Girl - that’s an awesome pic!

Snowboarding!! That sounds like so much fun! You'd think that living here in the Rockies for decades, that I would have tried it. Nope. Not snow boarding, not skiing, not tubing. Not once. Not ever! It sounds like you did okay for yourself for remaining up right for 20 feet! That's your personal record now! I don't even have a record!

Yeah the pic is cool, right? That's from last year. I haven't see the local photogs post this year's photos yet. Anyway, it's a tradition in these parts. You can read about it here: http://adaman.org/

NYC has a ball. We have a huge pile of rocks.
