There are a lot of people out there who spend a lot of time attacking Latter-day Saints, and that's naturally going to engender more sensitivity in a portion of the Mormon population.
I agree that many attack LDS based on inadequate research, or superficial information given them by others.
Might one reasonably ask why Jews are so hypersensitive about jokes aimed at their idiosyncrasies, or is that situation different?
