The question is why, when it was well known that Trump was summoning a large group of angry supporters to Washington to protest the certification of the election, many of them from groups such as the Proud Boys who tend to go armed, and that these people were planning to demonstrate in front of the Capitol with his encouragement, no effective provision had been made to exclude them from the building by deploying the National Guard, and the heavily armed Capitol Police made little effort to keep them out.

There was a notion, widely circulated among the left, that Trump would use any confrontation as an excuse to declare martial law. The common wisdom among the left was to stay away, not give Trump any excuse, and let the Treason Weasels show who they are. They certainly did that.
