Verse 11 is asking God to turn His face from the sin that has been committed and erase the sinners guilt. Verse 12 goes on to ask God for a clean heart and a renewal of spirit.

It seems very clear to me. God can cast a person from his pressence and the holy spirit can be taken away from someone. Such is the plea from the psalmist: do not leave me and cast the holy spirit from my pressence. Enough said.
