You have a valid point. Obviously, if names aren't associated with the recommend, then that puts to rest the idea of tracking attendance by the bar-coded recommend.
So, any membership clerks out there that can weigh in on this?
though I still can't reconcile though how the SP is getting temple attendance figures by name. I guess this makes it more likely that he was referring to ward temple trips - where some sort of checklist is used by the temple.
I'll try to remember to ask on Sunday.
"I question whether the barcode is even associated with a name."
- The barcode is associated with a temple recommend.
- The temple recommend is associated with the person.
"if names aren't associated with the recommend"
- Then please tell me, what does the recommend say? It says "this is a worthy person, identified as name:xxx ward:yyy stake:zzz"
"... I still can't reconcile though how the SP is getting temple attendance figures by name. I guess ..."
- The registry is stored somewhere in the COB.
- It gets the recommend information from the wards.
- The temples use this registry for identification. The process is: 1. The owner of this recommend is here. 2. Is he/she worthy? 3. according to the answer, he/she can enter. Note the step (1): the central registry gets the data. From this point on in the central registry they have all necessary data.
The barcode is the unique descriptor of an
identification card/paper/document for a certain person, in a certain system.
