That's not true, because you were at your desk looking at the board and responding to the next thing that I wrote. ;)

While you're here on the board, perhaps some of the misunderstandings can be resolved if you pay greater attention to what others are writing, rather than give in so easily to your need to pontificate on the obvious.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

One wanted advice on whether or not to fly for her vacation and to see her aging (77/80)parents. I watched that thread as it developed. Some moms saying go have a good time don't live in fear! Prices are in the basement! I put in my two cents once or twice the main reason being to explain how this pandemic was created and why it's called a pandemic vs epidemic, and I watched as cooler and more informed heads prevailed. They used a combination of facts and guilt. :-)

I post on one mom forum and am in one of those June 2020 babies Facebook groups, and some of those women have been insufferable. One woman was upset that her mother has backed out of flying out to see her for her baby shower (this was 1-2 weeks ago). Almost every comment on the post was "your mom is overreacting, there's nothing to be scared of" or "coronavirus is in [her city] already, too." I was one of the first and only ones to say, "If she's in an at-risk age category or has comorbidities like diabetes, then she shouldn't fly." I haven't checked back on the thread, but I'm betting the tide has turned and a lot more people think it's a bad idea for her to fly now.

Currently my stepmother is planning to fly out for the baby's birth in May/June, and if things are still the way they currently are, I will tell her to stay the f*** home. She's in her mid-50s and not in good health. I'm sorry if she has to wait until there's a vaccine or treatment out to meet her granddaughter, but it isn't worth the risk.

Then there's the natural medicine nutjobs who always seem convinced their household already had coronavirus this winter and they cured it with Vitamin C, zinc, and essential oils (or whatever).

Jersey Girl wrote:Other moms wanted to know how to keep from going crazy with kids at home for a minimum of 2 weeks--they're fooling themselves of course, the closures are ultimately going to be longer than that. Helping each other out with ideas and sample daily schedules to get through this. But imagine, Jack, we live in very nice homes with creature comforts galore not to mention all manner of digital experiences at our finger tips and people are worried about staying inside their own homes.

It's crazy. We live in a 3-story, 2200 sq-foot, 5-bedroom house. My kids can find plenty of crap to do for months. And once I do have this baby, I'll be on 10 weeks of paid maternity leave, so that should help.

There's some talk of the governor telling non-essential state workers to take a week or two off. I hope they do it. My job can certainly wait.

Thanks for the good wishes, the women's Bible study did offer to make grocery runs for me if needed, but right now I wouldn't dream of sending anyone but my husband to brave those zoos on my behalf.

Well, it's looking pretty likely coronavirus is in my household now. Fever and hacking dry cough just appeared. Either I'm the original carrier or it's coming in now. Both seem technically possible. If I didn't have corona before, which I still think is quite likely, I am genuinely concerned about how bad it will get for me. I am not recovered from my previous flu.

I feel horrible for you, EA. I have to wonder if what you thought was flu was really CV. Keep in touch and let us know how this unfolds for you.

Meanwhile...

CDC recommends no gatherings of 50 or more for 8 weeks due to coronavirus

Quite frankly, I think it needs to be more than 8 weeks. But we'll see.

I'm so sorry to hear this, EA. Is this you with the fever and hacking dry cough, or your partner?

Please keep us posted, if you are able. :-(

I'd like to think being a healthcare worker makes it easier to get tested, but I genuinely don't know. All the stories of people having an obvious case of corona virus being rejected for testing are now coming to mind.

Partner. I'm Ok. It's either I'm the original person to bring it into the household or I'm in a weakened state for when my symptoms start appearing. And, of course, she will have to play Corona roulette now. Of course it's possible this is some other bug that causes a sudden fever and cough, but come on. She's a nurse who works at a hospital.

Tracing back, my flu symptoms started on Feb 22nd. I was horribly sick from then until Feb 27th with a fever the entire time. The worst of it was the 24th-26th where the body aches and pains and shortness of breath was so miserable. Then the following week I was in an improving state. Since then I've had a residual cough with minor phlegm and some continued recurrent discomfort in my chest. My lungs sound clear, but I don't feel like I can breath as deeply as normal yet. There's ups and downs, but I feel like I'm overall getting better and better. All "normal" for a bad case of the flu, but consistent with corona.

It's now 22 days later and symptoms of corona are there for someone I live with. That feels on the long end of infectious spread, but is possible. Or it's possible she caught it from some where else and I managed not to spread it to her but also had it. Or, because of the timing, my natural fear is I had a flu that hit my respiratory system hard and now it's about to be attacked by another virus.

EA do you mind saying if you did or did not use a flu vaccine? It's perfectly okay if you'd rather not answer. Just skip it.

I didn't. I'm not opposed to vaccines. It's just that I'm allergic to eggs and normally can't get the flu vaccine because of how they are produced. I only learned after I had the flu (probably) that it's a cell culture this year and I could've gotten it.
