MAD's Obiwan: A Recovering "Pornoholic"?

Post by _Mister Scratch »

On another thread, our dear moderator Scottie noted that the aptly named MADboard poster called "Obiwan" was become increasingly irascible and cranky. Perhaps we can partially credit that to the fact that Joseph Antley has fired up yet another ridiculous porn-themed thread. It turns out there is good reason why Obiwan would be "hot and bothered," as it were, by threads of this nature:

Obiwan wrote:Speaking from experience.... it's a destroyer..... Sure, you think it hurts nothing for a while, but then you realize how it's changed you and that effects outward.

Unless I am mis-reading him, it seems he is admitting to personally have a "problem" with porn. Thus, we have yet more evidence that the LDS Church has created yet another pornography addict.

ROFL, what a thread:

I'm sorry, but this TBM poster insists she has been trained to compete with pornographic cartoons? WTF?

Next thing you know girls will be going under the knife to get eyes that half the size of their faces.

I think Obiwan is just displaying a degree of honesty with his statement. Consider what Church members have said about masturbation, yet who among the members has not masturbated? Statistics tell us that it is but a scant 5% and those 5% probably suffer from a sufficient physical or mental disorder that would preclude them from this activity.

Give me a break. So what if he's had issues with porn? I find this kind of misplaced schadenfreude distasteful. Good for him for being honest and up front.

I agree with BC on this one. (Did lightning just strike? LOL)

Seriously, Scratch, how do you come to the conclusion that the LDS Church created his pornography addiction?

I agree. There is a huge problem with porn and masturbation in the Church. Not because they are problematic per se, but because of the self destroying attitudes the Church takes. There will not be progress made until more are willing to shine a light in the darkness.

I am amazed on this thread how much conventional wisdom (read urban legends) passes for evidence in the debate. Most can't even articulate their position other than "its naughty".

I agree with those who say there is no reason to say the LDS church created an addict here. But it is interesting to contrast the responses of LDS and XLDS to the same situation - enjoying watching porn.

To say nothing for how a guy is supposed to compete with these animated heroes of the erotic arts. They are built like horses! I sat down to watch one of these movies with my wife, looking to add a little “excitement” to our marriage. As soon as the hero took of his pants, my wife’s jaw dropped, and she asked in astonishment, “so that is what those are supposed to look like?!” She then looked at me and laughed. I dropped my head in shame. She immediately started walking to the door saying, “I’m going to find me a man who can do it that way!”

That was seven years ago, and I haven’t seen or heard from her since. People tell me I need to start dating again, but why bother? How can I possibly compete with the expectorations these movies have given women?
It’s relatively easy to agree that only Homo sapiens can speak about things that don’t really exist, and believe six impossible things before breakfast. You could never convince a monkey to give you a banana by promising him limitless bananas after death in monkey heaven.
