why me wrote:I made comments about Korihor on the MAAD board. I think that his position is quite clear. He takes an agnostic/atheist position which seems logical. God cannot be disproven nor at this moment can the Book of Mormon. To say, I do not deny that the LDS church may be true but I don't believe it is true would ease the 'pain'.
I think that exmos would have cause for anger if the church was actually proven false. But not now. There is logic in Korihor.
Well, all that logic did him no good if the Book of Mormon is, indeed, true. Of course, if it isn't, then Korihor is just a fictional character. It just bothers me that you are admonishing people to follow the example of someone who you personally believe to be a villain (or do you think God unjustly punished him?).
I think most people don't deny that there could be a chance the Church might be what it claims to be, but it is an irrational position to uphold. The simplest explanation is that Joseph Smith never saw God; the current prophet stated that withour the first vision, the Church would be a fraud. Hence, the church is either not true or the current prophet is not telling the truth, so there is no point in looking up to him for spiritual guidance.
Or you can believe that Joseph Smith really saw God and Jesus, but it would require you to make all kinds of extra assumptions.
And, of course, the anger is not really caused by the doctrine being probably untrue; as many people have said already, it is the sacrifices required of us in the name of that probably untrue doctrine that make people angry.
Wiccans don't really make me angry even though I think that the basis for their beliefs is rather absurd. Because I've never been a Wiccan and they aren't doing me any harm (in fact, doing no harm is their core belief). So the issue here is not really the beliefs, but rather, what's being done in the name of those beliefs. And if someone leaves the Church, the impact of the Church continues, either on their lives or the lives of others in a way they consider harmful, so the cause for anger is still there.
And, of course, I don't see anything wrong with people manifesting their anger on message boards. I would have a problem
with them going out and shooting other people, but it's not happening. So what's the problem?
Also, why don't you ask juliann why she's so angry and bitter despite being in the only true Church which offers all this incredible happiness? Why attack and mock other people she believes to be her brothers and sisters?
I'll give you a hint: it has nothing to do with having a testimony or lacking one.
