You didn't ask me but I define it as the space where none of God's presence extends. It's a messed up place

Thanks, Nehor. I think you qualifiy as "or anyone"! The concept of "hell" is a relatively new invention.

If you limit it to what people called hell then yes but the idea of an underworld or place of darkness seems as old as humanity. I'm not big on titles myself

I sometimes worry about hell. But eventually, my daughter's friends do go home and things are back to normal.

There is no hell in LDS theology (the Bible notwithstanding).

Eeven if it is only a state of mind, it must be hell to be there, I imagine.

Which is why in my original post I mentioned 'outer darkness'. :)

I am generally saddened by the notion that good people are allowed in hell. Whether the burning hell or the cold hell not touched by God's existance. Being a parent I can tell you that my child would have to do some really, really bad stuff for me to totally cut them off. They would have to prove the lack of a conscience at all.

The way I felt, and the way I feel now, is that there are loving people, good people, productive members of society, faithful spouses, honest, always there to help, who are usually going to somebodys hell. As a Mormon, of course I was told by others I was going to hell. Then as I said earlier I usually felt I was going to hit below my target anway because I couldn't be good ENOUGH. Then now as a former Mormon I'm still going to hell or what-have-you. I just find it sad, is all. No matter what your creed, you're always going to someone's hell.

This is a classic example of playing One Up. Of stepping on someone in order to feel bigger, better, more special. If you're going to hell because you aren't one of us, then that means we aren't going to hell. We are therefore better than you, which makes us feel much better about our sorry lives.

Everyone plays One Up, even though we're all in exactly the same boat.

I'm not playing one up! I don't think any of us are going to hell! Not a one of us. :)

Well, except for those of us who have to go to Jersey on business. But otherwise, yes, most of us aren't going to hell.

Everyone plays One Up. You're playing it too; you're don't think any of us are going to hell. That puts you above anyone who thinks someone [else] is going to hell.
