Indeed, go back and look, Pahoran has successfully obtained the critical remarks he was seeking about Elder Packer's talk. It worked. He wanted people to criticize Elder Packer and they are (in a rather saracastic manner, of course).

But, really, what do you mean by your question, as I think I have been entirely consistent through all of my posts here and at MA&D. (According to Selek, I have consistently had my head up my a**, or a tube of preparation H up my a**--indeed, Selek seems to have a bit of a fixation.)

I think LOAP's point is that it's not particularly fruitful to talk about personalities and motivations. We all know that there are good and bad people on both sides. Most of the time we just ignore the nutjobs and the nasty folks. Of course, sometimes even someone as even-keeled and charitable as I am (*cough*) gets sucked into a personal thread. Seriously, if some people piss you off, ignore them.

Put selek on ignore and go on with your life, man.

Thanks, John. I know this has been your advice from the beginning. A

t this point it is not so much that they piss me off, as it is that I think that the "good people" on their "side" actually seem to respect them when they clearly should be reigning them in. I find it utterly astounding that of all the true believers over there, none will say "hey, Selek, please quit with the vulgarities"-- they are largely cowards. They are very quick to make comments to me when they think I have erred (right, LOAP?) and I have not come close to the kinds of statements these guys make.

Why wouldn't LOAP have said, "hey, Selek, is this what you are about, come on now."??? A bunch of cowards who are entirely incapable of aplying the same standard to themselves that they do to others. So, although I know there is little hope for Selek or Pahoran to change their ways, maybe the more open minded among their "team" will ultimately see how cowardly they have been in the face of obvious double standards. Then again, maybe not.

(I know, LOAP, you want Selek to bring you cookies.)

You've got to give me a chance to do it without you making a big deal about it, mms. Half the time you bring it on yourself, as well. I see your point, and it is a valid one, though.

Here's the problem. The "good guys" over there are allowed to sneer and ridicule and hate. No one condemns it because they're not supposed to. They're supposed to report the nastiness to the mods, who then decide what to do with it. Maybe people do report selek's nastiness. I don't know. But you're not supposed to do it in public; that gets you the title of "board nanny" or gets you banned, both of which have happened to me.

If you get angry by something someone says, report it. You will never get any sympathy from anyone over there if you complain in public. That's the way they run their board, like it or not.

Honestly, mms. Ironically, I think the posters in this community are more concerned with and vocally protest language and/or treatment of others than what you see on MAD. Weird.

mms, you think we're cowards but that's because you haven't figured out the board rules yet. We are not allowed to tell Selek to quit with the vulgarities. Believe me, I've done it in the past and I've been reprimanded for it; more than once. Board rules are that we are supposed to address the content of a post and not discuss the tone or the poster. If a poster is rude ( as Selek has been to you) we've been told to report the thread to the mods and let them handle it.

They are very quick to make comments to me when they think I have erred (right, LOAP?) and I have not come close to the kinds of statements these guys make.

and here you've found one of the real drawbacks of the board. Pro-LDS who are liked and accepted are allowed to make personal comments about critics--they are also allowed to be vulgar. If it is egregious, they will get a slap-and if really bad, a suspension. But it's pretty rare. So far, I don't believe any pro-LDS has been banned. Except for maybe one from last year who was so UBER-LDS, he got on the regulars nerves on a regular basis and kept starting threads even though he'd been told not to.

Why wouldn't LOAP have said, "hey, Selek, is this what you are about, come on now."??? A bunch of cowards who are entirely incapable of aplying the same standard to themselves that they do to others. LOAP would probably lose his good standing with the long-timers if he started board nannying--and making comments like you suggested is what is considered board nannying. Unless some of the regulars have an epiphany or the board gets new management, I don't expect anything to change there.

If we want to say anything about the other posters at MADB, we have to bring it here. Which is one reason why there are MADB threads on this board.

Careful. Seeking validation from apostates leads to the dark side. Or so I hear.
