Now we're on topic. This thread really was never about Marie Osmond or her son, it was about hating Mormons. Something PP spends a lot of time doing; an unhealthy amount of time from what I can see.
One moment in annihilation's waste,
one moment, of the well of life to taste-
The stars are setting and the caravan
starts for the dawn of nothing; Oh, make haste!

I'm reading this thread and my blood is boiling.

I'm the mother of a daughter in recovery. Her drug of choice: Oxycontin. She is in her twenties, has been clean for almost 2 years, and her father and I are helping her with her treatment even though she is over 18. Why? Because we love her so much and want her to live.

Take a look at my location: Orem. The drug problem is alive and thriving in Ut. County and we are losing kids everyday from the overdoses. Is Mormonism the cause? Perhaps, but I doubt it. We didn't raise our daughter in a strict Mormon environment. Maybe it had something to do with her parents divorce, maybe her sister's death. Maybe it's the Doctor's fault for prescribing her Percocet for menstrual cramps with refills. Maybe it was the peer pressure. Whatever the cause making judgement doesn't help.

When I watched Marie speak about her son, my heart went out to her. I know what it's like to lose a child and I know what it's like to watch another struggle with addiction. She is doing the right thing and didn't ask for her very private situation to be broadcast over national television. I thought her response was good. She was honest and open knowing that maybe her experience can help another family facing this all too prevelant problem.

Polygamy Porter, stop being such an A$$. Go back to what you do best and post your witty, sarcastic remarks that bring a smile to us Exmo's. Your giving the Former Mormon cause a bad name when you act like this.

Marie Osmond and her brothers have demonstrated that they are indeed, the perfect family. Perfect in the love and support that they openly express to each other. Perfect in the way they honor their parents. Perfect in the way that they handle the very normal dysfunction that EVERY family has.

I admire Marie. I've met her several times and I found her to be friendly, caring and not at all self-righteous. And as far as her dancing goes....She's 48 years old and can kick that high?!? You go girl!!!
And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who cold not hear the music. ----Nietzche

Go for the bunnies, poly. You like the easy target. Like a bully in a schoolyard.

You just caused a flashback. When I was a small boy, I spent the night in the Los Angeles Children's Hospital once or twice a week until I was 5 or 6. In the morning, it never failed: right in the middle of Hobo Kelly, the nurse would come in and take me into the procedure room. I'd wake up later with a sore throat, having missed all the kids' shows.

I'm glad you agree with me on this one. It seemed like you were on poly's side on this. Glad to see you have a heart.

OK, I just read the Larry King transcript. Larry King is an ass:

KING: We're going to -- in the next set, we're going to show some of the dancing. But I want to bring up a serious note, but something that deserves to be said, to see how you're doing. I know that you have many children.

M. OSMOND: I do.

KING: And I know that Michael is in rehab, right?

M. OSMOND: Yes, uh-huh.

How did you know that?

KING: I was told.

M. OSMOND: Oh.

KING: And I think it's important that people know how you deal with it, because -- I have some statistics.

Michael is how old, 16?

M. OSMOND: My son is 16.

KING: When a child is 16, 53 percent have used illegal drugs.

M. OSMOND: Yes.

D. OSMOND: Wow!

KING: Seventy-eight percent have used alcohol. Fifty-seven percent smoke cigarettes.

How are you dealing with it?

M. OSMOND: This last week, with my dad passing, was hard for many reasons. That was one of them. My son was put into a rehab. It's really hard. It's really hard. But it's a reality, Larry. Seventy-five percent, like you said, of kids under age 18 are dealing with this. It's affecting every single family in our country. They're having these -- they're called pharm parties, where they go and steal, you know, medicines out of their parents' drug cabinets.

D. OSMOND: Medicine cabinets.

M. OSMOND: And they dump them in a bowl and they just take them until they pass out. My son didn't do that. But, you know, he's dealing with a lot of issues. I don't know that I feel comfortable talking for him. I think he'll have to deal with that. But I will say this. My son is amazing. He's dealing with a lot. He's one of my kids. He's dealing with adoption issues, all kinds of things right now.

KING: He was adopted? M. OSMOND: He's. Yes, I think he was. He is the most amazing kid and...

KING: How are you dealing with it?

D. OSMOND: Well, you can see. I mean...

(CROSSTALK)

KING: Yes, but she's also dancing...

(CROSSTALK)

KING: I mean I bring it up because...

M. OSMOND: It's been a hard week.

KING: ...no one's had a week like this.

D. OSMOND: Yes.

KING: Fiftieth anniversary...

M. OSMOND: Yes.

D. OSMOND: I don't...

KING: ...your father passes, you go into the quarter -- there's only four left on "Dancing With The Stars" and you're dealing with a son in rehab.

D. OSMOND: Well, you know, what I think is what's really helping her...

KING: How do you bounce all of those balls?

D. OSMOND: I'll help you here for a second...

M. OSMOND: Thank you.

D. OSMOND: ...because you're -- you're a little...

KING: I didn't mean to...

(CROSSTALK)

D. OSMOND: Larry is throwing darts at you.

M. OSMOND: You're fine, Larry. You're fine.

D. OSMOND: But, first of all, she's got her support team around her. A lot of people in this country and a lot of people in the world are dealing with these kinds of issues. And the Osmond family, just because we're a close family, it doesn't mean we're exempt from those issues, because society can throw a lot of trash at you.

If, as was pointed out here, it was Larry's wife that told him about Marie's son, since she and Marie are friends, old Larry is sleeping on the sofa.

Good for Donny for calling Larry on his sh*t.

Yes...can we please leave the "Sandy candy" stuff out? Believe it or not, people take prozac and so forth to help themselves. Why rip them apart for trying to help themselves? (and yes I used to be prejudiced against people on depressed meds as people who are wusses who can't get their crap together on their own power....till I became one myself who needed meds, so lay off folks! Why kick a person who's already down enough to need meds?)

I don't like these exhibitions of schadenfreude. So her family has problems. Whose doesn't? I don't know Marie Osmond at all, never met her, and don't spend a lot of time thinking about her. But I can wish even a stranger well in hoping she and her family get through this mess.

And I second Bond's comments about ant-depressants. I'd probably be dead without them.

Well, I've learned an important lesson here. Continue to horde my own opiates lest my family members become too interested in them! Pharm party my ass.

I agree, Larry King was a total dick to Marie.
