Martha's book was not a "piece of junk." It was witty and struck just the right tone. I found it an excellent read.

I can't stand to watch more than 3 minutes of it.

Who is this guy anyway?

His shows consist of some journalist interviewing him every night on political topics as if Mr. Beck is supposed to have an informed opinion worth listening to. Every aspect of his show is a knock off against Gore's movie. For instance, his book is called an "inconvenient book." His show is called an "inconvenient segment," etc.

He strikes me as a goober.

Someone told me he is LDS. Is this true?

Beck is LDS. He really got his start and a conservative radio talk show host, sort of a Rush Limbaugh want to be. I think he is better on radio then TV. His CNN show is really him interviewing other not him being interviewed, as well as various news storied with his commentary. He has played up on Gore's movie and it is getting a bit old. He toured this summer and called it an Inconvenient Tour as well. I actually saw him live and his show was not really all that political then and he was quite funny. Most the time I like him pretty much but like all these guys he can get on my nerves.

The show I see every night is on HNN (whatever that is) and it is he who is being interviewed over and over about topics found in his book. I think the entire show is nothing more than an infomercial to sell his book. A picture of it is at the bottom corner of the screen during the whole show.

What a goober.

I thought he was gay.

I agree with him on just about everything, but he is just annoying to watch. It is kinda like listening to Kerry Shirts.

Sure you have the ritght guy? He is on CNN. Not sure what HNN is and selling book? His CNN show is really news oriented and he does not get interviewed. One of the reasons I like him on radio better is he is kind of goofy looking. Reminds me of Ernie from My Three Sons (Now I have dated myself).

Anyway, I get a kick out of these guys. I like Hannity and Colmes on Fox and I like both of them even though I am more politically aligned with Hannity. I like to listen to Michael Savage and he is in outer space most the time but entertaining. I like to listen to Randy Rhodes on Air America. She let's me know that ultra liberalism really is nuts. All in good fun.

Wow, it's like he just defined the blueprint for conversion in the short span of that first video. What do we see here?

- Dude is at a real low point in his life: no friends, no job, substance addicted
- Girlfriend is putting pressure on him to change (and become religious, no less!)
- Acquaintance calls him up to convert him; dude, caught in a vulnerable state, bites
- Goes to church; relies on the second hand "warm feeling" experience of his kid
- Get's baptized; coincidentally, the next day he gets a call that helps his career; dude conflates the two non-related occurrences (this is the key)
- Dude starts spending more time with his family; pulls his head out of his butt; attributes the inevitable positive changes to the church rather than simple changes in his own behavior (available to anyone with a modicum of common sense)

Result: another infantile sucker is born who thinks the church has helped him rather than, on his own, deciding to do the common sense stuff he should have done in the first place if he'd had a clue.

Sometimes people need a push and religion can help. What do you care if he is happy? Why so smug?

What makes you think I care about his happiness one way or another?

I'm all for people getting their lives on track; it's just too bad that he's giving the church all the credit. I've been saying for years now that one of the biggest problems with religion is that people give it way more credit than it deserves.

I actually really enjoyed that video. It struck me as a prototypical conversion story, so I just thought I'd comment on it.

And if I appear smug, it's likely due to the fact that I don't need religion in my life to "feel blessed." It's too bad so many in the world don't.
