Seems the idea that it doesn't matter is floating around but as a believer, I believed the Promised Land was land set aside, dedicated, and saved for God's work, and the restoration of the Gospel.
Maybe the church never taught this... (smile), or maybe I totally misunderstood the scriptures, but today it seems that the promised land with its associated blessings and promises could be anywhere... doesn't matter. Who cares?
If I recall correctly previous LDS leaders stated that America was the promised land and its leaders were directed by God to come here to establish a land where the Gospel could be restored.
Is this all gone the way of the dinosaur?
A few examples from scripture, which may or may not be doctrine, and yeah, just because it is scripture doesn't mean it is taught, and modern day prophets can reinterpret these verse to mean something other than what they say, etc. etc. etc. (smile)
Ether 2:10...
For behold, this is a land which is choice above all other lands; wherefore he that doth possess it shall serve God or shall be swept off; for it is the everlasting decree of God. And it is not until the fullness of iniquity among the children of the land, that they are swept off.
Ether ...
After the waters had receded from off the face of this land it became a choice land above all other lands, a chosen land of the Lord; wherefore the Lord would have that all men should serve him who dwell upon the face thereof; And that it was the place of the New Jerusalem
Nephi 2:20 ....
Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of promise; yea even a land which I have prepared for you; yea, a land which is choice above all other lands.
Is the whole Promised Land idea gone?
