The Promised Land... where?

Post by _truth dancer »

Where is the Promised Land, and does it matter?

Seems the idea that it doesn't matter is floating around but as a believer, I believed the Promised Land was land set aside, dedicated, and saved for God's work, and the restoration of the Gospel.

Maybe the church never taught this... (smile), or maybe I totally misunderstood the scriptures, but today it seems that the promised land with its associated blessings and promises could be anywhere... doesn't matter. Who cares?

If I recall correctly previous LDS leaders stated that America was the promised land and its leaders were directed by God to come here to establish a land where the Gospel could be restored.

Is this all gone the way of the dinosaur?

A few examples from scripture, which may or may not be doctrine, and yeah, just because it is scripture doesn't mean it is taught, and modern day prophets can reinterpret these verse to mean something other than what they say, etc. etc. etc. (smile)

Ether 2:10...

For behold, this is a land which is choice above all other lands; wherefore he that doth possess it shall serve God or shall be swept off; for it is the everlasting decree of God. And it is not until the fullness of iniquity among the children of the land, that they are swept off.

Ether ...

After the waters had receded from off the face of this land it became a choice land above all other lands, a chosen land of the Lord; wherefore the Lord would have that all men should serve him who dwell upon the face thereof; And that it was the place of the New Jerusalem

Nephi 2:20 ....

Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of promise; yea even a land which I have prepared for you; yea, a land which is choice above all other lands.

Is the whole Promised Land idea gone?

Promised lands are double-edged swords. You get blessed on them if you're righteous.....nations that are not tend to be wiped out.

If the promised land theory is still alive -- LDS everywhere should embrace all immigration legal or not into the US from South America because they are the lamanite nation who will eventually inherit the entire land right ??

--OR---

for the LGT folks - the promised land is some random 150 SQ mile patch of land with two rivers and a mountain somewhere in south America -- there are lots of candidates just ask the folks selling the Book of Mormon lands tour..

The promised land is apparently Guatemala.

No, it will be more like they come in and tear the Gentiles to shreds unless they repent. I'll give you ten to one odds.

Charity...

I think it is still around.

OK, but if I read you correctly, you do not know where it is nor do you care?

Is that about right?

Since the Restoration of the Gospel occurred here, and since Zion will be built in Missouri, I think the Promised Land is North America. The Promised Land is wherever God prepares a place for His people. And what I don't care about is what those who don't believe it think about it.

Then why do you spend most of your day trying to convince us that you do?

I'm talking about the Promised land discussed in the Book of Mormon... are you suggesting you think North America is the Promised Land that was saved for Lehi? In other words, not Mesoamerica?

If you are discussing some other promised land... do you not think it would be important to know where it is, considering there are so many warnings and blessings attached to it?

I understand the church believes Zion is anywhere the saints gather... I'm NOT talking about this.

I asking about the Promised land in the Book of Mormon...
