Quite a few teachers abuse their students and there are even some clearly formed patterns about how they escape and go to another school to continue abuse. I just don't think most teachers are pedaphiles. I think most teachers are wonder people (yes, most male teachers too).

You're talking about the pattern an individual establishes. Seth is talking about the pattern that an entire group establishes.

This guy did it. David Koresh did it. Quite a few others throughout history have done it. And Joseph Smith did it.

So, when you find out that your favorite, beloved teacher actually was proven to have molested some of his students at his previous school, do you recognize that he fits the pattern of an abuser, or do you make excuses for him about how, in his case, people are simply wrong about him?
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

No, because then he'd have to kill them.

Why? Must one believe in the Old Testament to claim prophethood? Or are you saying that even though people will give teenage daughters to heterosexual prophets there is no way they'd give themselves over to a gay prophet to be used? I think you underestimate the faith of believers.

Ok. Out of curiosity, are you pursuing this because you think it helps in any wayt?

Actually what I'm talking about crosses lines. Many pedophile teachers have done this and it establishes a pattern for how those pedophile teachers have been able to evade prosecution and go on to abuse more children.

While several charismatic leaders do shack up with followers, I'm not convinced that most do.

No. I was persuing it (the gay angle) for humor.

I doubt posting on this board helps anything.

I do not make excuses for people I know abuse others (unless the person is truly insane and cannot tell the difference between right and wrong).

Ok, and just in case you thought I didn't get it, I really did, but I was laughing on the inside, so you might not have noticed. ;-)

No - he would just get his followers to hunt them down and kill them.

I don't understand why so many people can't see the parallels.

As an aside, this pattern is one of the elements that persuaded me, several years ago, that one function of religion, like art and music, is to provide a stage for peacocks to strut for peahens.
