Sex is not what polygamy is about. A oneness and an attempt at making heaven here on earth is what its about.
Oneness? Seriously Gaz this is silliness. :-)
If polygamy is not about sex (and power and control and ego), then why have it at all?
Why isn't being sealed to one's father enough?
Why do men have to "own" women to be one with God? Where is the connection?
Why do women need to attach themselves to a husband in order to be one with God?
Why does becoming animalistic move us closer to oneness with God?
Why does God care what name one has? What does it have to do with one's oneness with God? Does God really care if I use the last name of my father rather than the last name of my husband?
What about all the "raising up seed" stuff?
Polygamy does not add to intimacy, closeness, and love, it DETRACTS from it, thwarts it, removes it from the equation. People don't move closer to holiness, they move away from it. Men and women don't become closer, more intimate, more loving, they become LESS close, intimate and love.
This whole "name" thing makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever. Really, Gaz, think about it. Think it through.
In your own scriptures God said it was an abomination. He gave no exceptions to this. NONE. He didn't say it was a holy practice, or some ultimate way of life... HE said it was an abomination and breaks the hearts of his daughters. What part of this don't you believe?
The reality, is, polygamy is a left over archaic practice that has nothing to do with God. Rich, powerful, ego hungry men may have owned many women in ancient days (and even today) but this says nothing about God regardless of how some men may want to fantasize that it will be their eternal future.
