Excellent point, Chris.
I actually did try to investigate Mormonism's claims before joining, but did not have access to information that enabled me to do so.
So DCP won't correct his altered quote, and that result is fine, as well. I will use it in my own sig line to demonstrate how apologists alter citations to suit their purposes, despite accusing critics of so doing. :)
Actually, I changed my mind about my sig line. I'm sure people will sense something is "off" with that quote. Instead, I think I'll just provide a link to my favorite MAD thread.
So, DCP, do you think you are NOT gullible?

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

The other important point to remember is that in recognizing ones human gullibility one becomes less gullible. :-)
The more one denies this tendency of the human brain the more gullible one is.

I'll second Beastie's book recommendation!

Gosh. Really?
Thanks for the heads up.

Precisely as, from her perspective, your commitment to Christianity does.

Which is pretty much what beastie would say about anybody who defends or advocates Christianity or even theism.

And this helps you... how?
by the way, I'm an agnostic atheist, which means that I would likely not generically apply gullibility in regards to any belief in a godbeing. There are specific claims that I do believe the charge could apply to, however, outside of Mormonism, obviously.

It neither helps nor hurts me.
But it does suggest that CK should be careful in his choice of allies.
Right, because it's a war between the god-fearing and the non-believers, isn't it? Us against them, to the death!
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Since you mention "fight to the death" it's time for a moment of Glenn Beck:
"I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could." — Glenn Beck
This is a man who has been given both the gift of the Holy Ghost and a national platform (behold the results).

when believers want to give their claims more weight, they dress these claims up in scientific terms. When believers want to belittle atheism or secular humanism, they call it a "religion". -Beastie
