Re: JustMe's motto--is it legitimate?

I say it [Shirts is far more well read than the majority of posters on this board] because it's true.

GoodK says
That's ridiculous.

Well, this presupposes that, like you try to accuse Jersey Girl of having, that you have a reading list of books that all the posters here have read, including my own. What proof do you have that this is ridiculous? I am truly curious...... (that's three MORE sentences I wrote without ridicule, am I getting on your fan list yet? LOL!)

I don't need proof for that. Come on, you aren't serious are you?

Claims that are made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

What is ridiculous is the statement in and of itself, not whether or not it is possibly true.

I am truly curious...... (that's three MORE sentences I wrote without ridicule, am I getting on your fan list yet? LOL!)

Unfortunately for you, Brother Shirts, my days of admiring Mormon scholars - even as an atheist - ended when I encountered the poster "Daniel Peterson" at the MAD discussion board.

But I'm sure you'll atone for all these nice sentences soon enough and I won't feel conflicted because you're a nice guy otherwise.

Oh, its not a misfortune for me at all. I simply don't live to worry about pleasing everyone anyway. When I for the first time met Daniel C. Peterson, and have hence stayed in touch with him, my estimation of him has simply blossomed. I rather like the man, admire his astonishing knowledge, and enjoy his manhandling of idiocy I see against him on these boards. It is all quite masterful.

Holy Crap!!!

Next time you make a statement like this, please, please warn me.

I should be sitting for such a groundbreaking shocker. I'm god smacked by this admission.

I will make this promise. When I see Moronic and stupid comments, idiot gossip, and evil speaking against my friends, I absolutely WILL take it on. If that makes you hate me, it's not my problem. When I see what I think is deliberate mishandling of ideas and denigrating good people, I will slash back. If one doesn't like me taking on the stupidity, one can always ignore what I write.
When I see good arguments, fine substance, intelligent thinking and reasoning, I will participate respectfully. When I see disrespect, I shall point it out. As it continues (do I have to mention Scratch? I'd just as soon not) on without evidence as mere gossip, I shall sarcastically respond. The key to having me share substance and intelligent discussions is to have them with me. It's not rocket science, it's simple manners and respect for the other. When I don't see that, I won't share it, especially to the dopes who are continually guilty of it.

So you can understand where those on the other side are coming from when someone we consider "good people" is treated the same way, right?

Like what happens more than occassionally in the FARMS Review of authors... ahem... I mean books.

Or when "whisper campaigns" are launched against people that we consider "good people" like Brother Quinn.
Or when annonymous posters are outed to their Mormon families out of spite.

I hope your statement means that you can relate to what others consider "slashing back."

If one doesn't like me taking on the stupidity, one can always ignore what I write.

That is not the issue, at least for me.

It's not rocket science, it's simple manners and respect for the other.

Question: Do you think referring to people as "antis" is simple manners and respect?

What about saying or implying that "critics" don't read books?

Would that be the same sort of simple manners and respect that you demand from others?

Hey! Hey! Hey! What happened to the "well read" debate here?

GoodK
Question: Do you think referring to people as "antis" is simple manners and respect?

I think he uses the term "anti" appropriately. For example, he doesn't refer to ME as an "anti" even though I disagree strongly with his religion and apologetics.

What about saying or implying that "critics" don't read books?

He does say that and it's true.

You don't know the person you're criticizing, GoodK.

I disagree. Strongly.

I'm sure that makes you feel nice, and it is awful nice of him, but it still doesn't mean that using a blanket, divisive label like "antis" is good "manners" or respectful.

You gotta stop, Jersey Girl. You know I love ya, but come on. This is absurd. Could you possibly entertain the notion that Beastie doesn't read books, for example?
I read a lot. I would guess most critics arrived at their convictions by doing just that - reading.

You don't know the person you're criticizing, GoodK.

I never said he was my drinking buddy, or that he is on my Myspace Top friends list.
I don't see how that relates to what I've said.

But thanks to you Brother Shirts is now the recipient of an official invitation to join me for lunch when I'm in Utah next month filming. We can get to know each other, if he is so inclined.
