Technical correction. It is no longer the Corp of the Pres....it is now the Corp of the Presiding Bishop.

2% apostate?

It's far more catastrophic to allow high profile apostates to thumb their noses at the Church without some sort of sanction. That is where the real loss of credibility occurs.
There's simply nothing there but two people choosing to exercise their own personal inspiration in a political arena.
Nor is there anything wrong with a Church determining who should and should not be associated with it by membership.
How do I measure such? I think of others who have been excommunicated (you might think of the "September 6") and by comparison, Steve Young, his wife, Harry Reid, and others should most certainly be exomunicated if the Church is going to remain consistent. This is where the loss of credibility is, small timers get ex'd, high profilers get a pass.
I hear Steve Young is the GD teacher in his Ward. So am I. Assuming I am just your everyday man on the street, how long do you think I would last as GD teacher if I publically supported gay marriage?

I have no doubt nothing will happen to the Young's for reasons listed. If you were their SP and you held a court on them I bet that upper level leaders would intervene.
But really let me ask, do you think the Church should discipline members who hold a political view not supported by the church?
Should those opposing prop 8 that are LDS be disciplined?
Also, just out of curiosity, where on the scale of apostasy would spanking the monkey fall?
