There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
Such people have consciously chosen to remove the very concept of God from their walk of life. They live without God in the world, and almost invariably they reach the conclusion that religious adherents (especially of the LDS variety) constitute an impediment to the progress of civilization.
Perhaps some wonder why God, given his greatness, would even take notice of such things, let alone be offended enough by them to bring to bear his incomparable power in a “shock and awe” assault upon them – all in the name of exacting retribution for their offenses against Him and His people throughout all of human history. Is not a “God of Love” above such “primitive” emotions as anger and vengeance?
Why then would the embodiment of spiritual refinements be inclined to ‘trample them in my fury … tread upon them in mine anger’ and literally soak himself and his clothing in the blood of those he slaughters in that day?
Because you deserve it.
Because He must demonstrate to His people that His promise to fight their battles is one He will keep. Because He intends to permanently separate you from those whom He has chosen to bear His name – and who have repeatedly demonstrated their willingness to take His name upon them. You will no longer be permitted to dwell among Him and them, worlds without end. And it will be by your own choice. You have chosen to reject God, to live without Him in the world, and to persecute the Saints and fight against Him and them.
You were given the opportunity to hear His word and make it the treasure of your souls, and it apparently did nothing for you. You have concluded that His words are nothing but the vain ramblings of men. You don’t know His voice, or if you do, you have chosen to not listen to it. One day, in the not so distant future, you will come to fully appreciate the gravity of your error.
Then if your hearts have been hardened, yea, if you have hardened your hearts against the word, insomuch that it has not been found in you, then will your state be awful, for then you shall be condemned.
For your words will condemn you, yea, all your works will condemn you; you shall not be found spotless; and your thoughts will also condemn you; and in this awful state you shall not dare to look up to your God; and you would fain be glad if you could command the rocks and the mountains to fall upon you to hide you from his presence.
