"High Impact" storm a comin'

Post by _Jersey Girl »

I thought I'd open a thread for myself. :-) We've got a "high impact" storm on the way, that's a fancy way of saying "blizzard". I'll use this little thread as a mini-blog, mainly because if the predictions are accurate, I'm gonna be stuck in my peachy rustic home for a good 24+ hours and I might need to reach out and communicate with other live human beings beyond the walls of my upcoming snow cave.

I don't mind blizzards so long as we don't lose power. We're on an electric well system out here in the boonies, so when the power goes out, so does the water.

Not a good thing!

We have a new back up generator which could be the key to lessening our collective misery. Snow shovels are at the ready, our plow is on standby and I've got jugs of water ready just incase the back up gen. doesn't do the trick.

Why do we need water jugs?

Simple. We, of course, need water for drinking and cooking. We always have cases of bottled water for drinking, cooking and washing up if needed. When the well goes out, we can't wash and more importantly...we cannot flush. Aye there's the rub! The jugs are for the flushing as a back up for the tub.

Tub, you ask? Yes, when a blizzard is on the way, you fill the bath tubs with water to flush your toilets.

Isn't country life a marvelous thing? Aren't you so seriously interested in our toilets?

Please note that this thread went into the toilet from the very first post.

Let it snow!

Man, it's dumping (to continue your toilet talk) in Denver. My boss called this morning and said not to bother coming in to work. I live across the street so I came in anyway cause I'm such a company man. We've already got about 8 inches on the ground and it's supposed to continue throughout the day and night. Awesome.

8 inches? Get out!

As an aside: I would appreciate your not naming my location here.

As I was saying, a blizzard is on the way. Not fifteen minutes ago, I saw a group of 3 Aberts squirrels, scampering in parade formation and then up a tree. See? Even they know what's up.

I think we've reached a point in today's presentation, where a brief lesson on levels of snow removal is in order.

Level 1:

Level 2:

Level 3:

Level 4: This is kind of like the set up we have. The Jeep is actually blue and the plow is yellow, so is the dog.

Level 5:

See the woman? Let me tell you what she's doing wrong. The snow covered her front door and she shoveled her way out. Silly woman!

Now, I will admit that when it starts snowing, we do put the shovels inside of the house, however, if you can't get the door open, you shouldn't try to fight it. It's bigger than you and you have no place to go anyway. (Especially if you're on secondary dirt roads and the plows aren't coming for another day or so.)

Please note that our day began at Level 1 or "it's just a dusting you can sweep it stage."

Please stay tuned as we work our way to Level 5. I need to go find the yellow dog...

Ha. We're up to a foot now and it's blowing hard. White-out conditions. I love it. And everyone knows you're in New Jersey, Jersey Girl. No secrets being told here.

There's a blizzard warning for the Denver Metro area right now. I'm in the North Metro area near Boulder and when I look out my window I can't see 10 feet away when it's blowing. Nasty conditions down here. You probably shouldn't drive.

I want you to know that your reports are helping my family. A family member is on the road right now, that's what I was referring to.

Me...I'm stayin' put.
