Just wanted to show an example of a flameout and emergency landing. A flameout just means that the jet engine stops burning fuel and in appearance is nothing dramatic. The seriousness is the inability to maintain flight. It is not the drama of special effects in movies and/or Nelson's imagination involving flames, death spiral, etc.

I get it. I read about visible flames sometimes occurring, but it sounds like that is most common at start up.tapirrider wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 12:50 amJust wanted to show an example of a flameout and emergency landing. I think the fact that this would have been a two leg flight makes the embellishments to the story more obvious.
If the engine fire event happened on leg 1, there would have certainly been a delay in Cedar City, no? Secure a new plane and all that, before heading on to St George.
And leg 2 would have been too short to achieve altitude.

The Miracle over Medford incident would make for an excellent Interpreter Films LTD movie. Drs. Peterson and Midgley, along with sidekick Kiwi would make excellent witnesses. Round that out with eight more brethren from the Interpreter and FAIR boards, and you would have a project that could garner plenty of donations.

Re: Fact Checking Nelson's "Doors Of Death" light aircraft near death experience
We know he kept records because he produced a personnel biography in 1979 of his exploits up to that time - “Heart To Heart”. We don’t know yet if the plane incident is included in that biography or not.
The first note we have of him telling the story is 1985. A period when a church contemporary of his, Paul H Dunn, was commonly using embellished anecdotes that aggrandised himself whilst making a faith promoting point.
At this point we have no corroboration of his story. No other witness has come forward, and no record of the incident has been found where one would expect to find a record. There’s no evidence that he talked about it at the time to anyone.

Isn't it quite remarkable that "Heart To Heart" seems to have fallen completely off the radar screen? It's an autobiography of at least 400 pages. Granted he wasn't too well known at the time; he wasn't THE Russell M. Nelson as he is today. But for a man so utterly convinced of his personal rectitude and who has advanced the art of the humble brag to such dizzying heights, why is it that, in our internet age, his first autobiography appears to be as hard to find as the lost 116 pages?
This man really gives me a 'bride at every wedding, corpse at every funeral' vibe. It would seem that his book should be chock full of fascinating stories.

I mean, all they say is something to the effect that the story sounds fishy.Moksha wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 10:31 amThis issue is addressed by Bill Reel and RFM at about 1:21. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sfYgp1HVbA

No, actually, it’s not remarkable. A few minutes on the Internet reveals that (1) this was a book he wrote for his family. Relatively few copies were made. (2) In the preface, he states that the airplane incident is the reason he wrote the book in the first place. http://www.truthwillprevail.xyz/2016/03 ... n.html?m=1Gabriel wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 1:18 pmIsn't it quite remarkable that "Heart To Heart" seems to have fallen completely off the radar screen? I saw a copy listed for sale at $2000. Not interested enough to buy it.
If you want to reasonably investigate someone’s story, you have to put aside your emotional reactions and your bias. You have to be genuinely curious in trying to figure out what happened.
