If you're expecting the church to honor a promise that was not made in public with witnesses, you're probably going to wait a long time. With that promise and a dollar, you can buy a hamburger on the dollar menu. In other words, I'm sorry, but that promise is worthless.
Any lawyer worth his/her salt would take this on, pro bono, or at least on contingency.
