It seems rather obvious that Dan’s sense of self-worth comes from what he perceives are his accomplishments. He doesn’t appear to really value himself just for being Dan, which would explain a number of things: his highly defensive nature and the lashing out at those he perceives as “enemies,” his inability to admit he’s wrong, the constant reminders of his credentials, and, let’s face it, his eating disorder (unless he’s one of the very small percentage of obese people who have a genuine thyroid problem). Wrapping himself in fat is just another defense against the big bad world.

Foul.

Daniel never discusses food, eating, body size, or food as a defense against the world. This comment is inappropriate and unfair and doesn't fit the context of the rest of your list.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

I tell you, sitting behind Dan at the last FAIR conference was a bit of a challenge:

He powders his face, too:

LOL

Oh harmony... you're so predictable.

It entirely fits the context of my list, which consists of "things Dan's apparent insecurity help explain."

I don't agree, Schmo. You start out listing behaviors here ("his highly defensive nature and the lashing out at those he perceives as “enemies,” his inability to admit he’s wrong, the constant reminders of his credentials...") which may indeed fit your basic premise and which all occur on this board... and then you digress into an activity that has never been exhibited here (a supposed eating disorder).

Your knowledge of eating disorders is obviously nil and your attribution of one to Daniel shows your ignorance of both the disorders themselves and Daniel. Just because a person is a tad bit overweight doesn't mean they have an eating disorder. Daniel doesn't have to be skinny, average, or in shape in order to participate here, give a cogent argument, or snipe at someone. His shape has nothing to do with MDB and your constant introduction of it into too many discussions show your inability to focus on both the subject of the thread and the substance of Daniel's posts. Were you able to give a cogent argument against what he posts, you wouldn't have to drag irrelevant references to his weight into the discussion. His weight is as irrelevant to any discussion here as yours is.

I want to go on the record that even though DCP likes to brag about the place names and conferences he gets to go to (and it bothers me, mainly out of jealousy), it is hardly the worst character trait in the world. It's not like he's tattling on anybody here on the board to people that could make their lives difficult. That would be beyond contemptibale.

Well what a shock! You don't agree with me.

Clearly, weight is a hot-button issue for you. It doesn't surprise me in the least that you're responding this way.

I know more about eating disorders than perhaps you'd like to acknowledge, and what you think of my knowledge in this area means little to me, given your own expressed views on the matter.

And it would also seem you suffer from monolithic thinking, combining me with every other poster who's spoken about weight issues, imagining that I tend to bring up Dan's weight to deflect from the meat of his posts (assuming he actually did post something with substance), but I believe this might be the second time I've ever even mentioned his weight in the several years I've been posting on MAD and here. I'm not critical of his weight; I'm actually sympathetic. Obesity is a serious problem in the US.

I recommend you don't post on this issue, only because your emotional investment is betrayed by the lack of sense you make when you talk about it. (Of course, I have no doubt you will continue...)

(Nostalgic sigh.) I'd almost forgotten how relatively slim I used to be. Unfortunately, I've put on a little weight since that picture was taken.

I order both you and Will to cease and desist from using my personal photos for your own sport. I have lost several modeling opportunities thanks to your taking credit for my svelte, lovely derriere. If you do not stop at once, I shall be forced to have my attorney contact you. You apologists truly want to destroy us critics.

“I was hooked from the start,” Snoop Dogg said. “We talked about the purpose of life, played Mousetrap, and ate brownies. The kids thought it was off the hook, for real.”
