Funny you should bring that up. At one point he stated that the reason the golden-plates were taken from man was because a scholarly translation would not match what was given to Joseph by God through the Urim and Thummim. God did not want his church looking foolish.
On another thread ('Middle Way') we hear that you will get ex'd if you dare to try to use your mental agility to help you stay in the church you were born in and whose members you want to continue to serve, despite your doubts.
On this thread we hear that you can babble away as inanely and ignorantly as you like without contradiction or criticism, so long as your intention is to convey the message that The Church Is True.
Zadok: I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis. Maksutov: That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

Do you have a problem with that or something?
LOL.

Geez, why not just say that they've been printing the wrong manuscript all along?
The Book of Abraham in the Mormon canon is really the handiwork of one of the scribes that was inadvertently mistaken for Smith's manuscript. Joseph, besought with myriad troubles of his own, decided against correcting the error in the Times and Seasons. After all, it was only much later that the mistaken version was placed into the canon. It's not like Joseph could have known how bad the error would get, I mean it's not like he was a prophet or anything.
"I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. ... Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I." - Joseph Smith, 1844
Nelson was handled long ago. Time to update those apologetics.
Yes, by the Tanners, who called him out for deception after Nibley recommended his services as if he were a legitimate Egyptologist!
Isn't it funny how those apostates have more discernment than Church leaders, and especially the Church membership in general? Makes you wonder who is really being open minded and rational.

Chap wrote: Of course the fact that they did not realize that a jackal-headed Anubis instead of a human priest contradicts the Book of Abraham just shows how few of them had an actual familiarity with the text in which their faith had been re-affirmed ...
Surely you jest. You mean we're actually supposed to read that stuff? I mean... the prophet reads it, so we don't have to.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
