Do you know for a fact that invisible fairies don't sharpen your eyelashes with tiny whetstones while you sleep? If not, you need to allow for the possibility.
Can you ever discuss religion/spirituality without being condescending?
I am not sure anyone on either side of the believing chasm can do so when addressing issues with those on the other side.
Mmm, you know, I just reviewed the conversation on my blog from 2009 where he told me all about this, and he didn't say he was an unbeliever now per se. Just that he was inactive and had been studying Buddhism and seemed to like it.
Sorry if I misrepresented you, wherever you are, Kevin. The conversation was over two years old.

Wonderful. Now, do you have a response to my question regarding the relative weight of evidence for the existence God vs invisible fairies?
A trite question, I know, but one theists still can't seem to answer.
If fairies are invisible, or non-existent, to begin with, how would one do a side by side evidence comparison with a divine being who is said, at least according to LDS belief, to be corporeal and has actually appeared to mankind and given direct instructions/knowledge?
I appreciate your respect for my lack of supernatural beliefs.
Actually, I do respect them. I think you're wrong and think that you hold to your beliefs just as emotionally as you criticize others for doing with theirs. All within the guise of appealing to evidence. I remain hopeful that you may consider that some people arrive at their supernatural beliefs in a reasonable way. I am doubting, however.

Some people believe in fairies. Some people claim to have seen them. Neither the fairy believers nor the God believers can come up with any evidence, though.
These people who claim to have seen god - what evidence do they provide to back up that claim?

You can speculate all you like about my emotional state, but the evidence is all in my favor. :)
I don't think there is such a think as arriving at supernatural beliefs in a reasonable way. You can't have supernatural beliefs without magical thinking, and magical thinking is an irrational state of mind.
