You flatter yourself by calling your false accusations "discourse."

Do you oppose libel laws, by the way? Do you think that there should be no limits whatever on public assertions?

Say what you intend, please. And say it clearly.

Hello Mr. Peterson,

Before I do that, would you be kind enough to state, clearly, and for the record that:

"I never spoke of Dr. Quinn's sexuality with any colleagues prior to his dismissal."

Thank you in advanced.

Yes, I will.

To the very best of my recollection, I never spoke of Mike Quinn's sexuality prior to his dismissal from BYU. I had absolutely no reason to do so.

Now, state your accusation.

Hi DCP.

I would like to announce that this is the first Zee thread that has seen the light of DCP. Let's celebrate!

Have you noticed I never really have much to say to you, DCP, except that I'm thrilled you are here? Can you tell I'm a fan? Seriously, let's do lunch sometime. I'll treat.... as long as you aren't going to order some really expensive wine...

Zee.

Hello Mr. Peterson,

Here is my accusation:

You speaking of Dr. Quinn's sexuality was poor form.

Here's my factual statement:

I believe your statement over Dr. Scratch's "informants" because you yourself made your statement, while we have to rely on second or third hand statements made by his informants. You are more believable than his "informants".

Here's hoping to build bridges of understanding... And that you eventually find the 2nd Watson Letter.

I did nothing in poor form.

Everybody knew about it. An open secret. It rarely came up. (Half a dozen times at the absolute max over the space of several years.) I don't think I ever brought it up. It wasn't discussed at length, nor even regarded as especially important, but simply noted as an uncontroversial fact.

Hello Mr. Peterson,

Ok. If that's your sentiment. I'm sure you felt wonderful when, in the past, someone has made a comment about your sex life with your wife.

See? Sense that initial sting, or resentment? That's why it's poor form. Shame on you for even engaging in that kind of behavior as a professional.

That said...

I'm impressed with your candidness and courage to openly post on this forum, and to counteract Dr. Scratch's "informants". Thank you for your openess. If Dr. Scratch has something better I'd like to see it, but I'm not sure he's going to produce it. It's put up or shut up, IMHO.

Good grief.

I didn't spread anything about Quinn. I was one of the last, believer or unbeliever, member or non-member, in the relatively small circle of "Mormon studies" people to know. It was a rather well known figure prominently associated with a liberal/dissenting fringe-Mormon publication who first mentioned Quinn's homosexuality to me (and my friend Todd Compton). Neither one of us had suspected, nor had we asked. He was surprised that we didn't know.

Your effort to paint me as somebody who ran breathlessly about spreading the news -- a depiction dependent entirely upon the efforts of the malevolent Scratch -- is utterly misguided.

I was simply present when Quinn's orientation was mentioned. Perhaps as many as half a dozen times over several years. Perhaps not that often. Since everybody knew about it, it was no big deal. It wasn't a big topic for discussion.

What "behavior"?

He's got nothing. He can have nothing. Nothing true, anyway.

lol this gave me a good laugh.

One time I did this Mormon drinking game where we played chocolate milk pong. I lost miserably and enjoyed the chocolate milk.

Have you ever done the gallon challenge? That is where you drink a gallon of milk under an hour without throwing up. I tried it once and ate a big cookie along with it. I got most of the way but ended up not making it. One of my companions on the mission was able to do it though. I think it is a favorite thing amoung missionaries.

Sounds like a fun lunch though!
