I have been married for (what year is it? I have to do the math :-) well, longer than most on this thread have probably been alive and not only did I have kids, I ended up in a child-related profession.
What is the point? I don't know. Maybe the point is to show you that you're freakin' wrong!
:-D
I guess this post should be in the kids and marriage thread.

Who's wrong?
Firstly, you are wrong. :-) My comment is mainly on marriage.
Oh, you mean the last line of the post? Me. I was wrong.

I think a very important reason is children. As a divorce lawyer I have seen too many times the extent that couples will selfishly disregard the material welfare of their own children.
I am not so sure Just Me how this would work with out the marital contract.

How what would work without the marriage contract?

Enforcing proper financial support for example for children and when necessary for the non-working spouse.
Without a contract I don't how that would be enforced, and I am certain from experience it would exploited.

I would like to add that I have never felt imprisoned or tied down since getting married. I'm sure this is due mainly to the fact that I got lucky and found an awesome woman. She comes from an excellent family, who happens to be very disappointed in my apostasy right now. That sucks. How do I show them gratitude for raising such a great person? (rhetorical question)
