I was speaking tongue-in-cheek regarding Romney. Care to comment on the wisdom of the law passed by Mormons in Utah? Do you think Mormons should impose their religious practices through legislative enactments where they are in the majority?

I also don't think it's an imposition of religious practices. I personally know of no scriptures or prophetic pronouncements leading me to believe that the viewing of the consumption of alcoholic beverages is sinful.

I completely agree. However, I have heard counsel (prophetic and otherwise) that viewing the consumption of alcoholic beverages is foolish if one is a recovering alcoholic.

It's the same moronic reasoning that goes into the opinion that pot should stay illegal. It's a classic case of refusing adults to ability to make responsible decisions for themselves.

Is it the same reasoning that says we're too stupid to know how to invest our money for retirement and therefore need to have it taxed away into Social Security? *

*: I'm all for using Social Security to help those down on their luck, but why then do we cap SS taxes so that the wealthy effectively pay a lower rate than the middle-class? Also, why are the wealthy getting an SS check at all? Something's not right here.

Yes but you can use that excuse for far too many things to make it wise to make it illegal. Should I not be permitted to eat a steak on the chance that someone with morbid obesity and high blood pressure will see it and want one themselves?

More seriously I think forbidding steak / alcohol is going too far, but it might be reasonable to section it off. Then again, it might be really stupid.

Only reasonable if said steak was sacrificed as part of a pagan ceremony.
