Really? James White has been known to show up from time to time. Where are the financial records for Alpha and Omega ministries?

I don't know about James' White's ministry, and I'm not a donor so I don't have much inclination to write to him and ask him about it.

But an interesting site along those lines is MinistryWatch. It tracks how well ministries are disclosing their expenditures and awards them grades based on that. The Voice of Martyrs, Compassion International and Operation Christmas Child are some of the ministries I've supported in the past, and they all have As. Trinity Broadcasting Network, the world's largest Christian television network (of Paul & Jan Crouch fame), has an F. Here's their 2010 Donor Alert List.

They've never done a profile for Alpha & Omega ministries, but you could always request one.

No, Liz, the ritual is not "symbolic" of the steps to godhood, it IS a step to godhood. I'm sorry that you didn't spend enough time in Sunday school to know what your church teaches.

I think that, in the case of the temple endowment, it qualifies as both.

Mormons are certainly taught receiving their endowment is an ordinance necessary to exaltation.

But the ordinance itself is a "cosplay" (thanks for teaching me the new word, by the way!) where acolytes advance from premortality through mortality and on through the kingdoms of glory to the celestial; and in that sense is very much symbolic of the steps to godhood.

If it stopped at the terrestrial, it probably wouldn't be.

The former is taught in Sunday school. The latter pretty much not.

According to Brigham Young, as quoted in official LDS curricula, the endowment is learning the signs and tokens that will get you past the angels who are guarding the way to heaven.

I guess we can infer from this that angels are Freemasons.
