Do you respect the beliefs of Muslim men who kill their wives or daughters as a result of the man's religious beliefs and the transgressions of the female?
If not, and you are drawing the line of respect at physical harm to other human beings, why not also include the emotional and societal harm that TBM families and communities inflict on those that choose to apostasize or to be less active, such as a 19-year old Mormon male that chooses not to go on a mission or a Mormon that marries a non-Mormon or two Mormons that marry outside the temple?
TBM beliefs, and actions TBMs take in response to them, cause harm. For example, consider zeezrom's experiences over the last two years.
And that was really the point I was trying to drive home.
Obviously, not all beliefs are equally harmful. If I point out the most egregious beliefs, and the theist comes back with, "well this other belief isn't that bad" we're left wondering, "so how much harm is acceptable?" If we say one belief must be respected despite its harm because it's "sacred" to the person holding it, doesn't it lay the ground work for more destructive beliefs not being held up to scrutiny?
