I have to agree with you and Quasi. Murray is toast. Dropped on the floor, butter side down, toast.

msnobody wrote:One question I have and have not found the answer to is was there anything in the contract about Jackson/AEG(?) or Dr. Murray being able to end the agreement at any time? Was Dr. Murray in a contractual agreement without an "out?"

With Dr. Murray's salary, he could have bought and had on hand an AED or vial or two of epinepherine or other emergency drugs. Or, why didn't he refer Jackson to or consult a physician specializing in sleep disorders (assuming he did not)?

in my opinion, Michael Jackson was very selfish to have put Murray in such a situation to begin with and bears a lot of the responsibility himself.

About the contract, this is all I know.

The contract with AEG and Dr. Murray had not yet been signed except by one party. Murray signed it the day before Michael Jackson died.

My understanding is that Murray's contract with AEG would not have taken effect until the This is It tour went to London.

I am nearly finished watching the prosecution closing statements and will have to finish tomorrow. I will post a link to this particular playlist. If anyone wants to understand what happened to Michael Jackson and why Murray is liable, just listen to the closing statements. I will also post the defense closing.

The jury begins deliberation tomorrow. My best guess is that they will reach a verdict before the close of business tomorrow.

And it will be "guilty".

I guess we can rule out any alleged powers of clairvoyance I might have! The jury is still out and I suppose this is understandable given the 300 or so pieces of evidence and testimonies that they have to sift through and weigh out.

I finally finished listening to the closing arguments for both the prosecution and the defense.

Murray is guilty as sin.

I say that not just because I am an admitted Jackson sympathizer, but because I have listened to as much expert testimony and closing arguments as I can. I will likely go back into the videos and view ALL of the testimonies.

When the autopsy report was released it included information that (just as the press had claimed) there were needle marks all over Michael Jackson's arms and legs. For a long time, I believed what the press was implying, that Jackson was a drug addict who shot himself up enough to cause track marks all over his body.

As it turns out, Murray had Jackson on a Propofol drip for a period of 60 day straight. That is def enough time to put punctures all over his body.

If anyone here is interested in the case, don't go by what you read in the news media. Take some time to watch the court proceedings.

Murray is a liar who withheld information from EMS and UCLA when asked directly what he had given Michael Jackson.

You can believe Jackson was a drug addict, that's perfectly okay to do. But don't overlook the fact that Murray shot Jackson up with (at least) 25mg of Propofol (Diprivan) outside of a hospital setting, admitted to leaving for 2 minutes (he lied) thus leaving his patient alone without a monitor that was equipped with an alarm and possibly, a patient who might dose himself.

He lied about the 2 minutes. His phone records show that he was on the phone for 45+ minutes. While on the phone with one of his lady friends, he suddenly stopped talking at 11:51 and that is when she heard a sort of scuffle in the background and the call ended.

Murray's next phone call was to security. He doesn't ask security to call 911, he leaves a VOICEMAIL to come right away and not until he has the security guard help him bag up a bunch of meds, etc. does he instruct the security guard to call 911 at 12:20 when, by then, Jackson was already dead. That's about 30 minutes from the presumed discovery of Jackson not breathing.

What an ass!!!

He had available to him, an ambu bag but in his interview with police 2 days later, he never mentions using it.

Again, what an ass!!!

I can see no way that the jury can possibly avoid conviction. If they do, I should like to know the reasoning behind a not guilty verdict.

The use of Propofol outside of a surgical environment alone, is enough to toast his biscuits.

Using a powerful surgical anesthesia outside of a hospital setting is reason enough to take away a doctor's licence and put him away for a while.

He knew what he was doing. I have no sympathy.

While using propofol outside of an OR might get your medical license taken away (and its highly debatable at that), a doctor prescribing it and using it in and of itself is actually not criminal. In fact propofol isn't even a scheduled drug by the FDA while Ketamine, a significantly less potent GA is actually a class III scedualed drug (mostly because you can trip balls with it)
Though what murry did was most definitely criminal negligence.

Nah, using Propofol outside of an OR is contraindicated and way beyond standards of practice. That will get you in big trouble if you're an MD and using it for "other than GA uses". As it should.

Yep. A reasonable verdict. Now, the question is, should he serve prison time? He will lose his ability to practice in this country. My guess is that he would have lost his licence regardless of the verdict.

He has been found guilty of man slaughter for reckless use of an inappropriate drug. Should he go to prison or just be given years probation?

Wow, I don't know how to answer this. I heard (radio) that the max he could get would be 6 months. Apparently the prisons in CA are overcrowded just as Brackite informed us.

If I had my way, I would drop him into Gen Pop and let nature take it's course. But even if he serves prison time, he would not be put in Gen Pop, he would be considered a "keep away" prisioner.

Losing his license to practice in this country sounds best, however, what would prevent him from obtaining a med license in another country?

Unfortunately, probably nothing.

What I'm wondering is whether or not the Jackson family has a civil suit up their sleeve.

What say you, Quasi?

I agree that it is a tough question. I had some hard feelings toward Murray during all of this. Now that he has been convicted, I'm starting to feel just a little sorry for him (I'm an old softy). I'm not sure what value prison time would serve.

He was a bad doctor and a jerk for what he did. He certainly knew better. His loss of the ability to practice medicine is certainly deserved and to the best interests of the population, in general.

If he is given some sort of probation, that would prevent him from moving outside of the US for some years.

I don't know what different country's laws are concerning this, so I don't know if he would be allowed to practice medicine anywhere else.

I think it is a safe bet that the Jackson family will file some sort of civil suit. My guess is that he has already exhausted any assets he had paying for his defense. Can't get blood from a stone.
