"Also far-reaching is the effect of the loss of chastity. Once given or taken or stolen it can never be regained. Even in a forced contact such as rape or incest, the injured one is greatly outraged. If she has not cooperated and contributed to the foul deed, she is of course in a more favorable position. There is no condemnation where there is no voluntary participation. It is better to die in defending one's virtue than to live having lost it without a struggle." - SWK

What a sick and twisted man.

Spencer W. Kimball would be an awesome addition to the cast of South Park.

I think it's important to bump this from time to time, lest we forget what a sick man Kimball was.

“We must remember that repentance is more than just saying, ‘I am sorry.’ It is more than tears in one’s eyes. It is more than a half a dozen prayers. Repentance means suffering. If a person hasn’t suffered, he hasn’t repented” ( The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, ed. Edward L. Kimball [1982], 88, 99).

Darn right!!! They need to submit themselves to the Guild of Truth and Penitence for their excruciations. Show us the scars from encounters with the rack and cane. Show us the clamp burns from El Electricion.

by the way, the Church is much kinder than this. Sometimes questionable thoughts make it to print, but where are the editors? That is the trouble when worship and fear of reprisal happen conjointly in the same book publishing company.

This is a true statement. No one will repent of anything unless they realize they have done something wrong and that always entails suffering. The question is, how much suffering does it take for you to repent? For some, not much, for others, it never ends.

Outrageous.
And this gross distortion of moral perspective is what we get in a church claiming to be filled with the spirit of God. How does that work exactly?
when believers want to give their claims more weight, they dress these claims up in scientific terms. When believers want to belittle atheism or secular humanism, they call it a "religion". -Beastie

Exactly. You'd think that being married for over a decade would be enough suffering.

That's exactly what it is. When non-marital sex is described as being "next to murder" in seriousness, something is seriously amiss. Having sex is worse than abusing a child or stealing from widows? Definitely a distorted moral perspective.

So you also subscribe to the doctrine of autoatonement?
