I think that for the average lurker popping in here and taking a gander at the contentious spirit generated through the prideful and dogmatic assertions and silly diatribes that come one after the other on many of the threads on this board (this thread being a prime example), they would go elsewhere to get a more balanced and even keeled discussion on things Mormon.

Ray is right, this board has devolved into a shouting fest by a bunch of whiny little brats.

You're not going to get any converts here.

Nuff said.

I've been online for about a dozen years. This is one of *the* funniest posts I've ever seen!

And I'm also sympathetic with her desire to create a space free of drive-by insults, arrogant put-downs and condescension as a regular part of discussion. I think that in order to accomplish something like that you have to part ways with the "Shades's vision," and that means more active moderation, banning and exclusions.

Where I differ from liz is in her roster of inclusions. I think she---and more out of her generosity and friendliness than out of any ignorance or mean-spiritedness---set the board up for trouble by including one person not known for his online charity, humility, reasonable discourse or ability to admit to mistakes.

And I'm not talking about nehor.

If we are thinking of the same person, this is someone I haven't seen give any quarter to those with NOM tendencies. I can sympathize with Liz on this, having many times invited disparate folks to my house. It seems to be easier to pull this off in the real world with all the distractions available, food, objects, other people, but it does make for a tiring though usually manageable evening. A discussion board seems harder to do successfully, I think much of our communication is lost when we don't see the people we are "talking" with.

I wasn't planning to address this, but I've thought better of it. I've been very "vocal" about this and I'm going to clearly state my position here as well.

If a person claims to leave a board because they aren't treated well, are attacked, find the posters intellectually inferior (pick one) then by gosh, leave it. I take exception to any poster who makes such claims and then goes about the business of dragging their baggage on to another board.

Liz created a nice board with a different focus. Mainly, for NOM's to share their experiences, give voice to their issues without being attacked for either being fence sitters or hypocrites. In my observation, NOM's are a distinct category of LDS who bring their own unique experiences/issues to the table. Essentially, they get it from both sides.

What I like about NOM's is that they think for themselves. They pick and choose what they are going to live for and go about the business of living it. They base their choices on their own personal values. No surprise that many of my good friends from the boards are NOM's. We have much in common in our approach to life and living it.

It's no secret that I dislike that (okay, I'm not going to be discreet) DCP dragged his baggage on to the Cafeteria. Please do not mistake this as support for Scratch or staunch opposition to DCP, for I have come to find qualities in both that I like. They each play a role in their online relationship and I essentially don't care about it.

I simply don't want to read about it on two boards.

What this has served to do is set up a relationship between MDB and the Cafeteria that is identical to MDB and MD&D. I don't think that this would have happened if a poster like DCP who claims to have left this board, actually left it instead of engaging it from afar.

Liz did not and does not deserve the mud that has been thrown on her in this thread. Someone to whom Liz extended a friendly invitation, chose to share the content of her board with Scratch. This disgusts me in a way that I find difficult to put into words.

I'll leave it at that for now.

Wow. Aren't you just the picture perfect example of a our Daughter in Heaven? When you pray at night do you explain to Jehovah & Elohim that you playfully engage in S&M fantasies and create contention amongst the Chosen?

Keep on rockin' that temple recommend Ms. Liz. You've really weasled you're way into it!

This thread never would have been possible without the above-described individual. I can guarantee you that, had Liz never invited this person, she never would have had the sort of conflicts that are playing out right now. I get the desire for "gospel knowledge," but how much of that it getting dispensed?

Keep in mind, scratch, this thread never would have been possible without you sitting ready to whimper and whine about the man you love to whimper and whine about. Nor would it have been possible if you weren't trying to provoke him by employing that sig line.

Scratch wrote:Actually, Jason, I hadn't said a word about him in over a month. During that time he was discussing me--behind my back, I might add--in quite some detail.

You had posted that sig line, of course. He commented on it and made a request. Suddenly some goon over at Liz's board went after Peterson for some perceived mental illness, which happened to spark the discussion about you.

Who dared to challenge the great and powerful Dan for his obsessive disparaging of Dr Scratch and MDB?

The gall of anyone who would have the temerity to do so. Dan afterall thought thecafeteria was built as his private playground, where he'd be king s***, where he could not be questioned.

Well, Dan's s*** seeped out.
