I wonder how many would pay a full tithe, if the donations were made public?

Secrecy... The devil's in the details.

I'd feel a lot better about paying tithing if a new tithing slip like Drifting's were to come out.

New Tithing Slip

Manuals & Materials
New Chapels

BYU
Interest Bearing Investments
General Authority Stipends
General Authority Expenses, cars etc.
Church Educational Employee's
Etc, you get the picture.

You can apportion your ten percent across which ever areas you felt were most deserving.

I think if the Church amended it's tithing policy to allow members to decide on tithing distribution:
a. General Authorities would all get secular jobs
b. BYU would repeal it's honour code
c. Members would be asked to pay extra for whole lot more stuff
d. Christ would heave a sigh of relief

Or the bottom one "Etc. You get the picture." Do you get a picture of the First Presidency?

Most of them are retired from secular jobs.

b. BYU would repeal it's honour code

I'm not seeing a connection. Explain please.

c. Members would be asked to pay extra for whole lot more stuff

This is coming anyway. Members already pay for stuff and do stuff they didn't used to have to pay for and do.

d. Christ would heave a sigh of relief

I'm not seeing a connection. Please explain further.

Harmony,

GA's would need to get jobs because hardly anybody will put money towards GA stipends

BYU would get hardly any tithing funding and so would need to attract paying customers - they would need non members to make ends meet

I agree new ways of fleecing the sheep are being introduced

Most people would pay their tithing towards humanitarian aid - something that I think Chirst would be happier about than they way his current Prophet's spend it

You are aware that the vast majority of the GAs are past retirement age? And have healthy retirement packages? Heck, Packer could sell his million dollar house, and live rent free in a church owned condo at the Mall.

BYU would get hardly any tithing funding and so would need to attract paying customers - they would need non members to make ends meet

I don't think so. If that were true, the endowment funds at most universities would be empty. They're not. People give to universities for different reasons than they tithe.

I agree new ways of fleecing the sheep are being introduced

Really quite creative, when you think about it. I'm sure it will only get worse as belt-tightening continues.

Ah. Well, in that case, agreed!

Harmony,

The current GA's are retired.
What about the next lot and the lot after that? The fund will dry up and at some point GA's will need to work for a living like the rest of us.

BYU is funded largely by tithing.
To get funds from elsewhere, I think, they would need to find a way of attracting non Mormon funds which in turn would be easier without the honour code in place.
