by the way, this would equally apply to nuts as well, right?
Does this mean that the 24th of July parade will have a gay pride float now?
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

Worst case senario, some apostles' and prophets' private (and nondoctrinal) interpretation of other doctrine and scripture regarding same-sex marriage is wrong. No harm, no foul.
It just isn't going to happen. BCSpace lacks the fundamental capacity to understand your words.

In the face of madness, rationality has no power - Xiao Wang, US historiographer, 2287 AD.
Every record...falsified, every book rewritten...every statue...has been renamed or torn down, every date...altered...the process is continuing...minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Ideology is always right.
One clear-cut position is that the folklore about same-sex marriage must never be perpetuated. LDS General Authorities I'm sure, in their own way, are doing the best they know to give shape to the Church's support for Proposition 8, to give context for it, to give even history to it. All I can say is however well intended the explanations are, I think almost all of them are inadequate and/or wrong.
It probably would have been advantageous to say nothing, to say we just don't know, and, as with many religious matters, whatever was being done was done on the basis of faith at this time. But some explanations were given and have been given for a lot of years. At the very least, there should be no effort to perpetuate those efforts to explain why Prop 8 was supported. We simply do not know why that practice, that policy, opposing same-sex marriage was in place.
