too bad you had to throw this ridiculous claim in. Makes it much more difficult to take your otherwise provocative post seriously.

The LDS congregations that I have seen close and upfront, are loaded with professionals and often healthcare professionals. Instead of having LDS families grabbing up dollars to send their kids on missions all over, why not have that youth be mentored by LDS healthcare professionals and give service on the streets?
This could, of course, be said of any church.
I'd say that many or most of our homeless are suffering from mental illness, addiction and abuse. Why don't we so-called Christian's who have expertise in these areas, get up off our collective butts and go to the streets?
Yes, I know there are programs for healthcare professionals to set up clinics and such in depressed areas, but what about our churches?
How rich would the blessing be for LDS youth to engage in such mentoring and giving service in their own communities at the side of professionals who are well able to treat folks?
I must be dreaming....

If LDST's point was that Mormonism breeds a particularly nefarious brand of right wing politics, based on what I've seen here, then, yes. And I've noted the same from personal experience. But I don't think that was his point. It was a throw in comment designed to bring about cheap applause.
In addition, one could make the claim, and support it, that atheism/agnosticism/humanism breeds a particularly nefarious (and dehumanizing) brand of left wing politics.

The missionaries could be assigned to various sectors of service. Instead of going out in a shirt and tie, they would be attired in jeans, t-shirts, and tennis shoes...ready to work. The service would be primary...the missionary work secondary. Missionaries could be assigned to hospitals...to assist in building and/or fixing homes, etc. If that was the case, I think that we would actually see a rise in missionary success. People who saw our missionaries exhibiting the true love of Christ would want to learn more.

That aside, please do make the argument and support it.

Abortion is the definition of de-humanizing. Expansive abortion rights are exclusive to left leaning politics. Shall I go on?
