How about you change the subject to A Request to Jersey Girl to Rehash the Discussions? After a year away from home you come back with a challenge? You have some cajones my friend.

How about you check his posting dates before you address the status of his cajones after being gone for a year?

His break in posting took place in August of this year.

So yeah, that's like 3 months, not a year.

In any case, if the person to whom the OP was directed doesn't object, why on earth should you?

I learned a lot during our previous exchange. You (as a nevermo) brought up many ideas that I was not ready to confront. I have thought about it since then and feel I'm better prepared now. I'm no longer in shock about my loss in faith like I used to be. I have found things that are very meaningful and I think it can be found during an exercise like this.

Honestly, I never quite had an experience like this as a missionary. I'm not doing this for jest or parody. I'm doing it to learn, that's all.

Thoughts?

Zee.

I want to know what you learned the first time around. Make me a brief list, okay?

Where is our old thread? Shades, why can't I do a search on the word "discussion"? It says it's too common a word so I can't find it.

Jersey Girl, I'm happy to tell you what I learned last time. Thank you for asking.

1. Never before was I rejected quite the way you rejected me as I tried to use the Commitment Pattern on you.
2. You interpreted some of the basic scriptures we use as missionaries differently than what I grew up with.
3. Never before had I taught the missionary discussions *without* the fear of losing a soul. There is no weight on my shoulders... no fear about what I say incorrectly or forget to say.
4. I feel like I can see the whole missionary experience from a totally different angle. It is fascinating to me.

By the way, I plan to only use 3 tools: the scriptures, Preach My Gospel manual, and the Gospel Principals Manual. I will not Google. If I get stuck, I will go to a fellow missionary at Mormon.org and consult with them. I also plan to have a companion (if you don't mind). We will be like Alma and Amulek. It will be glorious.

This time around, I won't use the old discussions I used in the early 90's. Instead, I will use exactly the tools available to missionaries today. I will do my homework and study up on teaching methods and styles emphasized in the PMG manual.

I'm excited to learn more about the modern approach LDS is using and see how it fits in a role play with a real nevermo.

Like I said, I'm not offended if you decline.

Zee.

When doing a search here, always put an asterisk (*) at the end of your search word.

So if you search for "discussion*", it should work.

You can't find it because the search feature is essentially POS. ;-) If you want to do a search on a common word, enter the word like this: discussion*. Even so, the search feature (unless Shades has changed it) will only go so far back in time. So...in order to find the original thread, I had to search on your screen name and flip the pages. I started doing this last night and gave up when I got to page 150. Just now, I started at the last page and flipped the pages backwards, starting at the oldest post.

Until I found it. :-)

Somewhere on that list is the answer I was looking for that would give me good reason to do this. I'm not going to say what it is.

Would your companion also be attempting to teach me?

What I want you to know is that:

1. I might disappear for a few days to address in real life at any given moment.
2. I would eventually return.
3. A personal belief that I hold will be the reason that I do this. In other words, I won't do it
for the purpose of entertaining you or anyone else.

So I will do it, but only pending your response to my counter terms and conditions.

Yes, but one thing. The search feature only goes so far back in time. Also, if you:

Enter "discussion*"
Enter "zeezrom" as author
Select Post titles

You do not get a list of threads begun by zeezrom. You get the threads started by zeezrom and others.

What to do?

Dear zeezrom,

I've made a small list of demands. :-)

1. The scenario has to be close to what might be authentic in real life.

2. You and your companion (do I know her?:-) come upon my doorstep at the start of a snow storm. I invite you in for a nice cup of hot chocolate. As we chit chat, we realize that the storm has ramped up to the point where you and your companion need to stay with me all night and talk. The talk becomes the actual missionary lessons.

3. I accept your idea about assigning colored text to our posts.

4. I outright REJECT the comments of others on the thread. I am not willing to
deal with having to tune out the tripe of others. I could name names here, but that would only encourage them. ;-)

5. Having said that, there needs to be a companion thread where others can post their comments and tripe, and mods can relocate comments to the companion thread.

Essentially, I am demanding a closed thread, with just you and I (and your companion/partner) as participants, but a companion thread to go with it so that others can chime in to criticize or what have you.

As the thread starter, I believe you can set the terms and moderators will oblige.

If I cannot have the closed thread and companion thread, I won't do it.

What I will do:

1. Give you sincere responses to your comments.
2. Use my Bible.

What I will not do:

1. Accept any messages from people who wish to "coach" me. A few folks tried to do that last time and quite frankly, it insults me. I know exactly what scripture I might reference for a specific reason, so it's a waste of my time and theirs.
2. I will not try to convert you.

Whatcha think?
