Do they usually put that in an excommunication letter? I had no idea. If so, yes, I think it's strange, but they can do as they please. But I reserve the right to comment on it.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of people that are excommunicated are admitted back into the church. The Church never gives up on people that I know of. As bizarre as it sounds I would expect the minute they throw you out for them to be working to bring you back unless you specifically ask not to be contacted.

Holy cow...I actually agree with grandpa bot! I agree that any social club/ private org. (including the LDS church) can set whatever rules they want for members. The KKK, Black panthers, LDS, Scientologists, YB's law firm, the YMCA, Justin Bieber fan clubs, etc. are, as inconsequential social/pseudo-religious clubs, allowed to set whatever silly rules for entrance that they want. I refuse to participate in the Jedi academy if they don't allow me to explore the darkside....Thanks Grandpa Bot! I think its great that you compared the LDS church to the Elks club - I can't think of a more appropriate analogy.

While I have not seen the excommunication letter of a friend of mine, he did tell me that it emphasized that he should continue to give the Lord his 10% through a LDS family member.
