science and reliion again but a new twist
Religion reduces science literacy in America and the effect exists even after evolution and global warming are taken out of the equation:

when believers want to give their claims more weight, they dress these claims up in scientific terms. When believers want to belittle atheism or secular humanism, they call it a "religion". -Beastie

You seem to be making an unwarranted causal connection by positing "Religion reduces science literacy."

God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

I'm not sure there's a meaningful distinction there.

Excellent. And appalling. Thank you.
From the paper:
...All together, these religious identifications explain 15% of the variation in science literacy.
To put these figures in perspective, race accounts for 9% of the variation in science literacy, education for 20%, income 9%, and gender 4%. Sherkat concludes that “religious factors are as important for predicting scientific proficiency as are many common sociological characteristics such as race, education, income, and gender.”...

Is it just me or does the education for 20% seem like a really low number?

Perhaps the effect of education on science literacy is lower than expected because the "bar" for determining adequate science literacy is set low.

Or perhaps this is why education does not matter as much as one might expect ---
---because clearly belief in Jesus and God Trump's evidence, science, education and reality.
When asked what they would do if scientists were to disprove a particular religious belief, nearly two-thirds (64%) of people say they would continue to hold to what their religion teaches rather than accept the contrary scientific finding, according to the results of an October 2006 Time magazine poll. Indeed, in a May 2007 Gallup poll, only 14% of those who say they do not believe in evolution cite lack of evidence as the main reason underpinning their views; more people cite their belief in Jesus (19%), God (16%) or religion generally (16%) as their reason for rejecting Darwin’s theory.

Is it also worth noting that, apparently, atheists/agnostics can't spell?
