Since there are so many people here that seem to enjoy criticizing the existing scriptures, I thought I might as well ask for comments from you before starting. Surely I don't want to be criticized like the others have been.
See, this is where I think Joseph Smith went wrong. He put very little stock in trying to help us really understand *how* he got words from God. I think it would be extremely useful for the critics to see exactly how I go about things.
So, my severest of critics, bring it on. Tell me how you think I should document the process of scripture writing in a way that will help you believe in what I write.
Thank you,
Zee.
PS - Does anyone out there have any recommendations on an interesting Starbucks choice? I'm standing here looking at their menu becoming quickly overwhelmed by the vast number of options. Note - I like it dark! (thank you for this as well)
Good idea. Whatever you do, do not let the critics get a hold of your source material. You can see what happened with the Book of Abraham. What a fiasco. Best to do like the Book of Mormon and make sure the source material "disappears". I suggest using several different methods. Rock in a hat, Urim and Thummim, or just crack open a KJV Bible and plagiarize parts of it. Tell people that the words would appear magically, and would not disappear until you got it right, but also leave open the possibility that you were still able to put in your own version of the word, that way they can't nail you with anachronisms. Make sure you get friends and family to verify that you translated by the power of god. Don't trust a disinterested third party to do it.

Damn. I admit check or possibly checkmate.
You will note, however, that prophets of old were pushed to say and do things that didn't align with their hearts. Book of Mormon prophets didn't even know why they were writing - they told us they know not, save the Lord has something up his sleeve. 1 Nephi 9:5
While I might write somewhat from my own heart, I plan to give the world pure revelation, direct from God.
This might be your problem, right from the start. You are trying to mimic male god ways. The Goddess does not work the same, now does she?

I am considering a translation of ancient writings. Since I am fairly ignorant on the subject, I was wondering if someone might be so kind as to point me to ancient text that remains unknown by the secular scribes.

But maybe there is a better text out there. Any ideas?
Thank you.

Awesome site. I saw this and immediately realized it was a record of Noah, written by his own hand upon rock.
Here is the translation:
And it came to pass that I Noah, being favored of God, commence the construction of the Ark. But before I build the ark, yea, I must speak a few things pertaining to future events. For behold, 2011 years after the birth of the savior, even Jesus Christ, ye must worship and give money and women unto Dark Helmet. If ye do these things, ye shall be blessed.

There's that Easter Island script. In your case the Phaistos Disk might be a better bet. Check it out.

Buff,
“We can accept nothing as authoritative but that which comes directly through the appointed channel, the constituted organizations of the Priesthood, which is the channel that God has appointed through which to make known [Her] mind and will to the world. … And the moment that individuals look to any other source, that moment they throw themselves open to the seductive influences of [Other Gods], and render themselves liable to become servants of [these]; they lose sight of the true order through which the blessings of the Priesthood are to be enjoyed; they step outside of the pale of the kingdom of God, and are on dangerous ground. Whenever you see a man rise up claiming to have received direct revelation from the Lord to the Church, independent of the order and channel of the Priesthood, you may set him down as an imposter” (Gospel Doctrine, 5th ed. [1939], 41–42).
My corrections are in brackets. :)
