The reason why the TBMs leave is because they often are insulted on this board. It is as simple as that. The board is a good board, but the posters tend to gang up on the TBMs and then they leave. The TBMs are insulted, mocked and looked down upon. Lets face it...it is not a great place for TBMs. But it is a good place for you and for others who have your point of view.

The reason TBM's leave is due to eventually understanding their arguments are built on spoon-fed lies that they simply cannot defend with sound logic/reason. Take Simon Belmont for example... remember when he came in with guns blazing claiming to know more about Joseph Smith that anyone else? He started out presenting the ruse he was actually answering the questions and presenting a valid argument, but now he's reduced to a drive-by cynic that states things he can't back up with anything other than "pro-Mormon" data, which is inherently flawed. He contributes nothing of substance anymore, but the giant magnifying glass he holds up to be seen keeps him hanging around... it will eventually not be enough to make him stay.

The inverse of your point whyme, can be found on other LDS boards that dogpile on anyone who asks the wrong question. The moderation is so weighted that one must tone down the truth in order to stay away from being banned. That doesn't happen here, but human nature will dictate that people who wish to form cliques will do so, and if someone like Stem who begs for attention (remember the "should Stem stay or should Stem go" thread?) throws the first stone, the end result is this thread. While some of it has been too mean in my opinion, "chumps" in the OP pretty much set the stage.

The same antimormon posters on CAF are still there posting their same old antimormonism. It is not catholic to post disparaging remarks about other faiths such as the antimormons do on the catholic taliban site. The site is a mockery to catholicism. To have catholics mock the LDS church is hypocritical when we consider the news that just came out of The Netherlands where thousands of people were abused by catholic priests. And that was my point there. But they could not understand the hypocrisy. Heaven forbid if one mentions the abuse scandal. Gone they are from the site.

No, this site doesn't gang up on TBM's, but it doesn't have a truth filter which TBM's need. Take you for example... you recently stated there was "only one" person who claimed Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon with a seer stone placed in a stove-pipe hat. What you were referring to (I'm speculating) is David Whitmer. When I pointed out the other witnesses (Martin Harris and Emma Smith) who also stated it was done with head-in-hat and seer stone, you simply stopped posting. Truth be told whyme, no one "witnessed" Joseph Smith using the supposed breastplate and Nephite spectacles to translate the Book of Mormon, and if anyone could have it would have been Martin Harris, because he was there for the lost 116 pages, before the supposed Nephite spectacles were taken back. In the end whyme, this site doesn't acknowledge the distortion you claim is truth... if you can't stand the heat, it's best to hang with those that feed off the distortion. If ignorance is bliss, don't blame free speech for infringing on the cognitive dissonance required to believe in Mormon arguments from silence based on nothing but distortion.

Yes, unfortunately that is true.

It feels that way due to being outnumbered. The problem can be some posters do not behave well and throw out insults. I do think this should be moderated better. That said the church is not what is claims to be and there is more then enough evidence and people who understand it here to make most TBM avoid this place, or leave some time after from being beaten down with the evidence over and over again. I do appreciate some like Nevo, George Miller, Consig who behave well and don't try and create drama. They get attacked much less then someone like stem who makes many whining threads, and threads about himself. Hopefully some of the complaining might get better responses from the mods concerning personal attacks in the Terr/Celestial forums.

Folks on this board sometimes seem to forget that there are real people, with real families and feelings, on the other end of the phone line.

A loyal opposition keeps this place from becoming an A Capella choir. Look at what has happened with the homogenization and pasteurization of the MD&D board. Nobody will be driven away by moderation here, but singing only one note will ultimately have the same effect.
