As far as I am concerned, this is a sign of the apostasy of the LDS Church. Now it is not just more human than divine; it is more machine than man.

It is very disturbing to me as well. I have no issue with reasonable and prudent investing for a rainy day fund. Building up some assets to protect operations in a down time makes a lot of sense. But this $5 billion monstrosity is just that. Why did the Church need to dump that much money in downtown SLC? I just don't get it.

"walking porn"

That is a disgusting phrase. I cannot understand why it would ever get used under any but the most outlandish of circumstances.

No not even under outlandish circumstances.

I think it should not be used.

I don't get it either. It is a glaring contradiction with decades of teachings on the evils of materialism.

Which guy named a building after the Hinkster? I'm probably mixing up Uchtdorf with this guy. My bad.

Quite right because it once again it transfers the responsibility for a mans sexual desires on women. But this has always been the mindset of Mormon leaders - and pretty much most of other religious leaders as well.

Women are NOT at fault for anything. A woman always has the right to choose anything she wants no matter what. And she is NOT a slut or walking pornography for it. I hope that some day women will be treated as 100% equals like they are, without religious old "F"s like Mormon GA's getting in the way.

I was pretty outraged when it came out. So it just makes me frown on Mormon Cult Leaders who use a beautiful, skinny, tanned, long legged brunette in their commercials to get people to come shop at their mall - paid for with money that originally all came from tithing.

Meanwhile, humanitarian aid? Yeah, whatever world. Come look at our million dollar squirter - er - Las Vegas style water thingy.

If these men, this corporation, this CULT was actually spending money, in the billions of dollars - on humanitarian aid, it would be different. But they aren't. They're building stupid edifices to themselves to bring in the most amount of cash return.

Look at how Mormonism has evolved. From the earliest roots down to today. If you never believed it was a full corporation disguised as a church - you should now.

How they can stand in front of their so-called 14 million members - and ask for continued tithing - is beyond me.

Do they really teach against materialism?

Look at how they promote dress in the ranks. Who leads the church? Paupers?

Look at the concept of ultimate godhood of each individual. What will be your job as deified immortal? It will not be a painter, a writer, a mathematician, or a musician. It will be a business administrator. Mitt Romney is the poster child Mormon leader.

The implicit teaching is not against materialism, in my opinion.

Well, that kind of depends on how one interprets the teachings. It's clearly not an unambiguous set of messages to be sure (and as I have said ;-)).

Kish,

Interesting that you make reference to a church apostasy.

I'm not questioning your statement but asking more questions for myself: Apostasy from what? Earlier teachings? Some earlier state of affairs?

True, the church has gone through periods of economic troubles but it has always had the desire to become a shining, powerful kingdom. I think we could say that the church has finally arrived to an economic state Joseph Smith might have hoped for. It doesn't have the political power he might have hoped for, but it has the economic power.

Just surmising...

There are no poor in Zion. There are no proud in Zion. The wealth of the current LDS Church is a sham so long as Zion is absent from it.
