I was under the impression though that at least some Area Authorities, MPs, and General Authorities got living allowances or stipends. Am I wrong on this? Do we know if anyone is paid anything? Are there any credible sources that talk about this?

Thanks in advance.

If you listen to the talk where it was mentioned, the speaker did not mention the GAs. They of course, need some funds to live since the work they do is completely for the church. Bills still need to be paid and food still needs to be bought. Not to mention personal family expenses such as grand kids going to college and their children too. But on the local level it is quite different. And rightly so. In this way, the LDS church does have a lay ministry unmatched in the world.

Unmatched indeed

Ex-Mormon Bishop takes plea deal for failure to report sexual abuse.

Is Rojas facing church discipline for failure to follow the explicit church requirements on such an important matter?

The church will be serious about child abuse when it starts holding church courts for people like Rojas.

And what does this have to do with anything? There are creeps and perverts in all organizations.

Which means the GA's are paid. Are you so afraid to say the word paid? Personally I think bishops and SP should get some compensation. The church takes way to much money from it's members, and doesn't even have to pay local help like many other churches. There are also other advantages of a professional ministry.

"unmatched" why me "unmatched." We're in agreement, why me, the Mormon clergy are unmatched.

I expected your typical weak denials and twisted legalistic logic but this is just a sad...Just say "as usual, I was wrong about the whole paid ministry thing..."

Bc's rationalising on this what is not that the GA's aren't paid. He accepts that they are; that they receive income from the Church for doing what they do full time.

What bc is stating is that whatever it is that they do, it doesn't equate to being art of the Church 'clergy' who 'minister' to the members of the Cuurch.

Bc, I hope I haven't put words in your mouth but I believe i have accurately reflected your position on this subject.

Here is a description of what the First Presidency and Apostles do to receive their Church salary:
UNDER THE DIRECTION OF Jesus Christ, the Church is led by 15 apostles, who are also regarded as prophets, seers, and revelators. The man who has been an apostle the longest is the President of the Church, and by inspiration he selects two other apostles as counselors. These three function as the First Presidency, which is the highest governing body of the Church. (For information on the other 12 apostles, see Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, which is the second-highest governing body of the Church.)

Members of the First Presidency are special witnesses of Jesus Christ, called to teach and testify of Him throughout the world. They travel frequently, addressing and encouraging large congregations of members and interested nonmembers, as well as meeting with local leaders.

When they are not traveling, members of the First Presidency counsel together and with other general Church leaders on matters affecting the worldwide Church, such as missionary work, temple building, spiritual and temporal welfare, and much more.

And here is a description of what the other General Authorities do to earn their stipend.
THERE ARE CURRENTLY EIGHT QUORUMS of the Seventy. Each quorum may have up to 70 members. Members of Quorums of the Seventy are often referred to simply as “Seventies.” Seventies are called to proclaim the gospel and build up the Church. They work under the direction of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and the Presidency of the Seventy

Some Seventies are assigned to headquarters administrative functions, but most live and work within a specific geographic region of the Church. Like the Apostles, they also travel frequently to visit and teach congregations of the Church.

Also, inconveniently for bc, under the heading "Prophets and Apostles Speak Today" there is an address to the youth of the Church which goes exactly like this:
Prophets and Apostles Minister to Youth
Prophets and apostles regularly provide messages of encouragement and support to youth of the Church, their parents, and their leaders. Here are three additional examples:

1. President Thomas S. Monson leads the way by teaching principles that will strengthen youth as they face challenges prevalent in today’s society.
2. President Boyd K. Packer of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles says he believes youth “can meet the world on its own terms and conquer it.”
3. In a combined interview, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, and Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, say if leaders remind youth of their capabilities, they will live up to what they are asked to do.

Yes, the Church has a paid clergy.
“We look to not only the spiritual but also the temporal, and we believe that a person who is impoverished temporally cannot blossom spiritually.”
Keith McMullin - Counsellor in Presiding Bishopric

"One, two, three...let's go shopping!"
Thomas S Monson - Prophet, Seer, Revelator

The good news for bcspace is that thanks to Christofferson's talk on doctrine, bcspace can now dismiss published claims that general authorities are ministers as mere opinion.

let's in bcs's weak mind, Jesus was a minister as was peter and paul and the original apostles- they were not paid ministry, so according to bcspaceout's logic similar LDS counterparts are not paid-they do what Jesus did according to outerbcspace so by definition and requirement they cannot/are not paid. their funding has to be called something else-perhaps an in-kind donation or a freebie provided by ardent supporters. spacegoon is defending doctrine remember!

of course everyone here who has countered baffledcasespaceship's argument are on totally solid ground because the LDS higherups do get a pay chk, taxes are withheld on those wages/stipends etc, anyone with an ounce of commonsense(this excludes spacecadet) knows the difference.

yes-spacebunny is lying again, so pls put him eternally on hold and save the ink!

i thk bcspace has a terminal case of Mormonism induced insanity, perhaps he is a 21st century martin harris-the man who knew it was all BS but needed a house/care in his old age.
