What's wrong with giving a name to the matter that they can't see or measure? It would only be lame if they claimed the matter was dark because it was cursed by God. Then, after understanding more about dark matter, saying they don't know why they taught that. But then they would be stepping into the realm of religion.

Isn't this called "hoisting someone with their own petard"...?

No thanks. Not going to waste the time. I am done when it quickly degrades to stupidity like this "squeak/squeek" crap. Course ironic when someone calls someone a name and can't even spell it right.

So you were just making that bit up about how grants are distributed?

JSkains' sweeping condemnation of science and unsatisfactory understanding of much of what he is saying is certainly inappropriate and worthy of criticism. He does validly point out though the deceit of some like Lawrence Krauss who attempt to win a rhetorical battle over the word 'nothing'. Krauss' science is good but philosophy and language is bad. A good review of his book can be read here:
All communication relies, to a noticeable extent on evoking knowledge that we cannot tell, all our knowledge of mental processes, like feelings or conscious intellectual activities, is based on a knowledge which we cannot tell. -Michael Polanyi

Can you give us some examples?
Or perhaps jskains can explain why there shouldn't be scientists on boards granting money to...scientists.
