I am in favor of getting what the program promised me.
We'll see how that works out for you. I don't like your chances much more than I like my own. I think you'll end up wishing you could have cut your losses.
In the case of the government, let them buy fewer billion dollar fighter jets.
Would you be ok with just using one airplane and an atom bomb to save money?
or collect more taxes from those who have millions of times more than they need.
Even if they did that, do you think there would be enough to pay for it. I'm not convinced there would be enough even if you taxed them 100%. Generally very wealthy people are very good at getting out of paying taxes. They pay tax attorneys instead. The more social security you dole out, the more immigrants we'll get, the more people we'll get on disability... You can't pay for everything and not have that result in debt.
History shows that governments that can't keep promises lose reputation and then power. It's as simple as that. Those commitments have to be continuous over changes of party power etc. It isn't any party that made the promises, but rather the US government. We implicitly agreed by electing policy makers. It was all transparent.
Follow through as promised!
I agree with you. But regardless of who gets elected, I can't see it happening. If your generation doesn't get the shaft, mine will. I think it will come down to people having to first get approved for disability to get social security, unless you live to be 70. They'll just keep raising the retirment age. The chances of people becoming disabled are a lot higher than the chances of people dying. That's what happens in socialist programs.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.
