Are you saying you are the one behind the restore FARMS effort? If so, I'm disappointed in you.

I hope you're joking.

Which Facebook group?

The "Restore FARMS" group, for my comments copy/pasted below:

John Kammeyer Three things: Call it the "B.H. Roberts Society," (2) keep it independant, and (3) if a prophet asks you to join BYU, tell him "no."

Michael G. Reed Wow. John's comment above suggesting people to tell future prophets "no" was "liked" by the "Restore the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies." Interesting where your loyalties exist.

Restore the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies It was an invitation, Michael, not a commandment.

Michael G. Reed I am aware of that. John's post promotes a blanket answer, regardless of whether or not the "invitation by the prophet" might be a good one. Again... interesting to see where your loyalties are.

John Kammeyer I was keeping it terse, the whole thing requires much more thought and analysis than can be provided on a blog. I made a suggestion, not a criticism of the Church. However, we are where we are because FARMS accepted the offer to join BYU. The past is gone, let us not refight it, let us move on to what needs to be done now.

Restore the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies It does not matter if it was a "good" invitation. FARMS was an independent organization, and could do what they thought best. In hindsight, it probably was not best for FARMS. Trying to twist this, with the "loyalty" talk, to make it look as if we're against the prophet or the Brethren will not work. You might be interested to know that the entire board of FARMS at the time of the BYU merger unanimously voted to against it. Most were BYU faculty.

Michael G. Reed John, you made a suggestion indeed. And your *suggestion* was that you should say "no" to a prophet's *suggestion.* The "Restore the Foundation" likes this idea... and maintains that your suggestion should be followed... because, as was said above, "It does not matter if it was a 'good' invitation [from the prophet]." I appreciate both of your transparency. My suggestion to those who have previously "liked" this page, is to reconsider whether it is worth liking after all.

And the beat goes on... the beat goes on.

LOL!!!

Yes, it has been most interesting to observe how people's loyalties align in all of this. Notice that he knows that the Board of FARMS voted against the merger, and yet fails to compute what the implications were regarding their ability to say no to future "suggestions" of this kind. Correlation has a certain logic to it that is hard to avoid, even if one is a defender of the faith. You either cooperate in getting correlated, or you get run over. Either way....

The church is so protective of its image, I wonder how Dan and his Merry Men think they're going to be able to have any breathing room at all, post Debacle?

I mean... seriously... they don't really think they can go outside the box and still do what originally got them kicked out of the aforementioned box, do they? I mean, that will put them sideways of the church (not to mention being sideways of their employer).

I hope they just calm down, and listen to the still small voice that's yelling at them to keep their collective mouths (and fingers) quiet.

It's funny how they reference Hinckley's vision of FARMS. That dude's dead. Aren't these apologists usually the first to claim a present prophet's direction supersedes a past prophet's and yet here they are trying to revert to an old prophet's vision instead of embracing the new direction. I smell apostasy...

DCP is still on the staff at the D-News and is still publishing articles. He is still listed as part of the administration at the MI although his bio has been further reduced; at least twice by my count.

and I suspect if you look at BYU's faculty list, he's still there, too. Thank goodness! We don't need more unemployed standing in the unemployment line.

Pretty sad that the good professor has been reduced to publishing in a decimated shell of a newspaper that mostly reprints or summarizes wire-service reports.
