The bishop isn't even necessary to an excommunication proceeding for a Melchizedek priesthood holder. I wonder if this business trip was just an excuse to postpone the trial until after the election. If the reason given is the only excuse for postponement we will see it rescheduled before the election. One cannot imagine that the leadership of the stake would leave the threat of a trail hanging over Twede's head for more than a month due to scheduling conflicts alone especially since the initial date was so quickly scheduled. If the trail happens before the election then perhaps the bishop not being there was a legitimate excuse, otherwise it is clear they are just trying to avoid an embarrassing public event during the campaign.
