And another to download it... ?

You know, I live in a different time zone, and a very, very different financial zone...

I don't want to pitch the books on MD, but I'm happy to send or answer PMs.

PM sent.

The interviews went fairly well. Some were short, no more than five or six minutes, while others were a bit longer. The Sacramento one was the most interesting to me, personally, even though we didn't speak much about the books. But the hostess is Catholic and we had a great discussion about the role of doubters in a religious community, the difference between people who profess to believe versus those who claim they know, and interesting discussions about what role faith should or shouldn't have in the political arena. Don't know if the average listener would have cared, but I appreciated the chance to get off script a bit.

I listened to the Popp interview. The two of you were talking past each other. She wasn't interested in your books. You weren't really interested in taking a strong position on any topic relating to Mitt Romney. You didn't really even talk about your books. You didn't answer the question as to why you were no longer a member of the Church, before you came on she expressed some doubts about your point of the view. I know nothing of her but she seemed to be right-wing and sympathetic to Romney and his faith.

She wanted to stress the fact that religion shouldn't play a part of Presidential politics. That wasn't really a topic you seemed to want to address, and instead you wanted to talk about what it means to doubt -- a topic that didn't really resonate with her (or would, really, with most people). I assume that topic isn't really central to your books, but not having read your books I don't know.

I am curious as to why you left the Church.

Interesting. I thought that one went pretty well, and I heard back that they want me back on, so I don't know. And no, we didn't talk too much about the books, but by that time in the day I found that a bit of a relief, actually.

What more did you want me to say about why I left the church? I had doubts. I don't feel like it's a church for doubting people.

That's nothing. I've been interviewed on the radio for my Mormon publications and have been told I'm wanted back. They're being polite, I suppose.

I just couldn't figure out what your role was in the interview, what you could say, about presidential politics. I was expecting a disaffected Mormon to say that Romney would be a mere puppet, but she wasn't going there because she obviously so disagreed. So, you ended up really saying little.

As to your reasons for leaving, I am a little curious. Your blog seemed to indicate that you were living off the largess of a friend in Hawaii. Maybe I read more into your comment about that. Have you ever published your reasons for leaving somewhere?

She didn't go there, but neither did I, if you'll remember. In fact, I stated several times today that when push came to shove, I thought Romney would probably not respond to hypothetical pressure from Salt Lake. Each of these interviews had a different tone. Some wanted to talk about Mormons for an audience that didn't know much (mainly in the east), and other wanted to talk about politics, while still others focused on the books. I'm only giving my view, but I doubt you listened to that and thought, gee, here's an angry ex-Mormon who hates Romney.

Hawaii? You've got the wrong guy. I live in New England and make my living as a full time writer.

Oh, wait, you were talking about this post. Hah, no I was on vacation. My parents have a share in a beach house in Laie, a few blocks from the temple, and they finally got the whole clan out there at once by paying everyone's way.

Well, Popp signaled somewhat her disapproval at the top of the hour in the first half of the show about a "former" Mormon, in that she was possibly going to discount what you were going to say. But, in the end, you weren't angry and you didn't say you hated Romney. At that point, I then wondered, what makes you somebody anybody would want to interview? You don't really have a position. Or so it seemed.

If you don't really want to say why you left the church, no big deal.

I don't know, dude. People like to talk about religion, politics, and literature. People are asking me to come on their radio stations to talk about these things.

As I said before, I am a doubter. I take it you're not buying that.

I found one of today's other interviews online. Other people can draw their own conclusions. http://wrvc.podomatic.com/entry/2012-10-10T07_02_35-07_00

No I'm not. But, my opinion should count for very little to nothing.
