Probably because he's not worthy of it, and humbly acknowledges so (even if it's some kind of "false" and hypocritical humility). It might just be that he recognises the truth, but doesn't possess a bone of integrity to live up to it. Maybe he's just weak, hypocritical, and sinful - but can see beyond these human limitations, to something far greater than his own nothingness and insignificance. And maybe he doesn't feel it necessary to degrade something he recognises is much greater than his own selfish desires, and the narrow opposing worldviews he could utilise to justify himself.

Maybe one day, God will stretch out his hand, and redeem him in ways he never thought possible. And only God knows how much he needs this.

Poor Ray A. All we can do is pray for his redemption.

Good night, Chap.

Sounds like Mormonism isn't doing you any favors, brother. You should look into something else that doesn't make you hate yourself so much.

Look Ray: if this religion remotely resembles those of the Christian traditions supposedly following Jesus of which I have had any in-depth knowledge, the idea that you need to be 'worthy' in order to be a member strikes me as utterly bizarre. I mean, you know this parable:

Luke 18:9-14

King James Version (KJV)

9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Me, I think that the whole thing is simply a 'sinister fairy tale', so none of this worries me. But assuming that what you say about yourself is true, I'm worried about you.

But why don't you simply go now (run, don't walk) to your nearest place offering the kind of religion you feel comfortable with (tomorrow would be best) and get whatever comfort and strength you can find to get you through life?

I mean, what does the guy who you think is behind it all have to do to get your attention? Get crucified on the forecourt of the next gas station you visit? Why are you playing so hard to get? Why pretend to be so damned special?

(by the way - You know Mormonism much better than I do. If you are sure that it doesn't want sinners as members, may I suggest that you ask yourself whether it really is a Christian religion at all? But I hope it won't come to that.)

I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis.

That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.
